Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A Certified Veterinary Technician credential (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is preferred.
  • Credentialed technicians need at least 2 years of emergency and critical care experience.
  • Non-credentialed technicians need at least 4 years of emergency and critical care experience.
  • The ability to react quickly and appropriately during emergencies and remain calm under pressure is required.
  • Fluent spoken and written English is required.
  • The technician must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Tact and diplomacy are required when dealing with clients affected by a variety of problems.
  • The role requires a team-oriented attitude and support for a positive workplace culture.
Responsibilities
  • Triage patients, obtain vital signs, and document patient histories.
  • Initiate stabilization measures under veterinary direction.
  • Place intravenous catheters, collect samples, and administer medications, including continuous rate infusions.
  • Assist with anesthesia and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Perform diagnostics, including radiographs and in-house laboratory testing.
  • Provide advanced nursing care to emergency and critical care patients and communicate changes in their status.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Operate emergency and intensive care monitoring and infusion equipment.
  • Provide advanced nursing care to postoperative patients.
  • Support emergency veterinarians with treatments and procedures while delivering patient care from initial presentation through stabilization, treatment, and recovery.
  • Maintain cleanliness and medical care standards and coordinate with the team to support accurate, efficient work and patient outcomes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with sample collection and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) procedures is preferred.
  • RECOVER training is preferred.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
