AI startup CEO pays employees $18K annually to live near office, claims flow state justifies investment

Rilla, a New York-based AI startup building speech analytics software, offers employees an $18,000 annual housing stipend to live within a 10-minute bike ride of its Williamsburg office. CEO Sebastian Jimenez says the investment helps remove friction from employees' lives so they can focus on work. The company's culture centres on maintaining "flow state" — complete focus and immersion. Employees typically work 12-hour days, six days a week, and the company provides three daily meals and fitness facilities. Rilla spends roughly $37,000 per employee annually on housing, meals and fitness benefits, excluding healthcare and equity. About 80% of Rilla's 120 employees take the housing stipend. The company recently signed a 10-year lease for a penthouse office with exceptional ventilation after consulting Harvard expert Dr Joe Allen, who found high CO₂ levels impair cognitive performance.

Rillavoice & SPOTIO For the first time, field sales managers have a fully-transparent solution that represents and reinforces both the art and the science of selling - it really is the best of both worlds. This collaboration between the two market leaders brings industry-first capabilities to address ongoing challenges in creating effective coaching and training programs for outside sales teams at scale. For field sales, face-to-face coaching is extremely important for developing high-performing teams. Still, training and ride-alongs are incredibly manual, time-consuming, and not scalable for large and distributed workforces
