Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of Ciena's integrated photonic components to create innovative opto-mechanical designs.
  • Work with RF design and optical chip design teams to define functional specifications and efficiently interface all design components.
  • Plan designs of experiments to ensure that critical design parameters are met while optimizing cost and assembly for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate progress, and raise potential issues that may affect product functionality or target dates.
  • Ensure that appropriate documentation is created.
  • Participate in and organize design reviews, and ensure their documentation and follow-up.
  • Interact with production ramp-up and operations groups to transfer developed designs into a production environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in the Creo design software.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the design of photonic components, thermo-mechanical stress optimization, integrated-circuit assembly processes, or optical design.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in finite element analysis using ANSYS.
  • Deep knowledge of electronics and optics packaging, such as for lasers or modulators.
  • Experience with fiber coupling to optical waveguides.
  • Knowledge of reliability requirements in the telecommunications industry, such as Telcordia.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing and assembly processes of optical components.
