‘A Force Of Nature’: Friends And Colleagues Remember Tenable Ceo Amit Yoran

Amit Yoran, a cybersecurity executive, founder and former public servant, is not only remembered for his expertise, but his authenticity. The CEO of Columbia, Maryland-based cybersecurity company Tenable died unexpectedly at the beginning of January following a cancer diagnosis. Yoran had previously taken medical leave in December, with Tenable’s CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond stepping in as co-CEOs.Yoran, who lived in Great Falls, Virginia, has a resume entrenched with cybersecurity work: He previously led RSA Security in Massachusetts, as well as started NetWitness in Reston before RSA Security acquired it in 2011. He also served on the board of directors for the Center for Internet Security (CIS), an organization promoting cybersecurity awareness and best practices, and the California fintech firm BlackLine prior to his death.“He always took his work seriously, but he never took himself seriously,” said Joseph Kopser, Yoran’s former roommate at West Point, adding: “Not trying to be the center of attention, but he just naturally gravitated and became the center of attention because everyone was enjoying listening to his stories and his larger than life personality.”Yoran worked as the national cybersecurity director at the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 and 2004 during the George W. Bush administration, as well as for the Department of Defense in the late ’90s. Kopser, a serial tech entrepreneur and president of the consulting firm the Grayline Group, kept in touch with Yoran as he could over the years after their days at the esteemed military academy. But the duo always supported one another. When Kopser founded the transportation tech platform RideScout in 2011, a few years before it was acquired by Mercedes Benz, Yoran invested money into the firm. He also vouched for Kopser’s idea to investors, which then caused a flood of people to put money into the startup.Plus, when Kopser ran for Congress, Yoran was one of his biggest donors, he said

At the event Tenable will showcase its AI-powered Cloud Security solution that supports securing The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia’s Cloud-First, Digital Vision 2030.In addition, Tenable will share details of its 2024 Cloud Risk Report. The report reveals that nearly four in 10 organisations (38%) have an elevated level of exposure from workloads bearing an especially risky blend of security gaps. Tenable refers to this blend as the “toxic cloud trilogy,” defined as any cloud workload having these three risk factors:A critical vulnerabilityExcessive permissionsPublic exposure“A toxic cloud trilogy increases risk by making the workload’s weaknesses easier for attackers to exploit, ultimately making the scope of exploitation potentially greater,” said Maher Jadallah, Vice President, Middle East & North Africa, Tenable. “Security teams often have to juggle multiple clouds and identities across a converged IoT, OT and IT landscape. Tenable helps to expose and close the priority security gaps that put businesses at risk

Coalfire And Tenable Partner To Enable Comprehensive Exposure Management

Best-of-breed partnership combines Tenable's industry-leading security software with Coalfire's hacker expertiseGREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., June 12, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Coalfire , an industry-leading cybersecurity services and solutions company, announced it is partnering with Tenable , the Exposure Management company, to drive a threat-focused approach to secure organizations of all sizes, including the world's most valuable enterprises. By complementing Tenable's powerful preventive security technology with Coalfire's threat-focused expertise, this partnership enables organizations to be more prepared than ever to deal with modern cyber threats.Increasingly complex environments across IT, OT, and the cloud, combined with the proliferation of tools and platforms, have made securing modern organizations a difficult challenge. Most organizations still struggle to gain complete visibility of their points of exposure, correlate that data together, and drive remediation across attack surfaces before threat actors can exploit them.Leveraging Tenable's expansive portfolio, including the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform, Coalfire's hundreds of hackers and defenders deliver crucial managed services for exposure management – providing deployment, configuration, ongoing management, and ultimately driving end-to-end remediation. Together, Coalfire and Tenable are rebuilding programs to rapidly identify and fix points of exposure, which better prepares a customer's security program to counter the threats and vulnerabilities that seek to disrupt business operations and steal sensitive information."Coalfire has a like-minded approach to preventive security that matches well with Tenable's exposure management platform," said Jeff Brooks, senior vice president, Global Channels and Business Development, Tenable. "Our partnership will provide more organizations with the ability to understand their risk and identify where they're exposed before their systems can become compromised.""Rapid advancements in technology, and especially generative AI, have dramatically expanded the attack surface for bad actors to infiltrate, which increases workloads for already stretched security teams," said Charles Henderson, EVP of Cyber Security Services, Coalfire. "Security teams not only must have complete visibility but must contextualize it with business impacts and threat intelligence to remediate at the speed needed to stay ahead of modern threats."He continued, "This partnership gives customers Tenable's best-in-class exposure management technology, operated by our best-in-class hacker practitioners to take a threat-focused approach to prioritizing remediation for the vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and threats uncovered by Tenable One
