About the company

GE Aerospace designs, builds and services jet engines and aircraft systems for airlines, plane makers and armed forces around the world. Through CFM International, a 50-50 venture with France's Safran, it makes the LEAP engine, the only engine on Boeing's 737 MAX and one of two offered on Airbus's A320neo family. Its other units make avionics and electrical power systems for civil and military aircraft. Most of its revenue comes from repairs, spare parts and long-term service deals that airlines buy over the decades each engine stays in use, with the work done in its own and partner shops. GE Aerospace traces to General Electric, founded in 1892, and is based in Evendale, Ohio.

What believers are saying

  • Demand outruns supply: orders rose 17% to $16.5 billion in the quarter to June 2026, lifting backlog above $210 billion.
  • Hiring is broad: in March 2026, GE Aerospace set 5,000 US factory and engineering hires, after 5,000 in 2025.
  • Factory investment is sustained: GE Aerospace has pledged over $2.5 billion to US plants and suppliers since 2024.

What critics are saying

  • Its biggest deal adds debt: the $11.75 billion CPP castings purchase, agreed September 2026, mixes $7 billion cash with borrowing.
  • Hourly pay follows a fixed track: Evendale and Erlanger's UAW contract sets 3% to 5% raises through 2029.
  • Parts remain the choke point: castings shortages still slowed engine deliveries across the industry in September 2026.

What makes GE Aerospace unique

  • Its engines fill the skies: about 50,000 commercial and 30,000 military GE and partner engines are in service.
  • Lean methods shape daily work: staff follow FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace's own lean operating model built on continuous improvement.
  • The Pentagon depends on it: GE engines power F-16 and F/A-18 fighters and Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.

GE secures $42M in public funding to keep Prestwick jet-engine work in UK

General Electric will receive up to £33m in public funding to keep jet-engine maintenance work at Prestwick on the Ayrshire coast, the company said on Monday. The money comes from UK, Scottish and local government sources. The funding aims to protect 850 jobs and add 150 more. GE is also committing £27m of its own money. Prestwick services half of GE's engines for Boeing's 787. Plant manager Andy Prow said that without the support, GE would probably have grown at lower-cost sites abroad, such as Brazil, Taiwan and Poland. The money will fund a 5,110m² building, expanding the site by roughly 20%. Prow said further expansion may be needed, as the 787 is not expected to reach peak production until the late 2030s.

GE Aerospace (NYSE:GE) shares down 2% - time to sell?

GE Aerospace (NYSE:GE) shares down 2% - time to sell? GE Aerospace (NYSE:GE - Get Free Report) was down 2% during trading on Wednesday. The company traded as low as $302.98 and last traded at $303.3490. 3,799,753 shares were traded during mid-day trading, a decline of 26% from the average session volume of 5,115,253 shares. The stock had previously closed at $309.39. Key stories impacting GE Aerospace. Here are the key news stories impacting GE Aerospace this week: * Engine demand and earnings outlook remain supportive. A Zacks analysis points to robust engine demand, rising earnings estimates and strong projected cash flow as reasons the recent pullback could represent a buying opportunity. GE's latest reported quarter also exceeded consensus expectations for both earnings and revenue, providing a favorable fundamental backdrop. * New program and production activity reinforce aerospace prospects. GE Aerospace highlighted a milestone in its GEK800 turbofan program with Kratos and shipped four additional F404 engines for India's Tejas fighter jets. These developments support the company's defense and propulsion pipeline. * Analyst and institutional support offer incremental encouragement. Susquehanna maintained its Buy rating, while Congress Asset Management purchased 7,007 shares. The purchases are relatively small but may signal continued confidence in GE's long-term outlook. * GE plans to invest $225 million to modernize a research center and its foundation is committing $1 million to aerospace workforce training in Alabama. The investments could improve long-term innovation and labor availability but are unlikely to materially affect near-term results. * Commercial aerospace aftermarket weakness is weighing on sentiment. An investment manager cited a broad sell-off in commercial aerospace aftermarket stocks, a concern because GE depends heavily on engine services and aftermarket revenue. * Technical and valuation concerns are pressuring the stock. Reports describe GE as being in a bear market and nearing a "death cross," while investors await the company's October 20 results. A high valuation increases the risk of further selling if guidance or results disappoint. * A regulatory referral creates an additional overhang. Authorities referred GE over alleged anticompetitive restrictions involving servicing of medical-imaging equipment. The matter appears related to GE's healthcare operations rather than its core aerospace business, but it could still create legal, reputational or financial risks associated with the broader GE organization.
