  • The position requires the ability to frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp with light or fine manipulation, and talk or hear; occasionally stand or walk, write by hand, and lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds; and rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, work above shoulder height, or grasp forcefully.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment for approximately 20 children in conjunction with the Teacher for the Extended Day or Regular Day Preschool Programs.
  • Assist in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate language-based curriculum for preschool-age children that fosters Protestant religion and Hawaiian culture.
  • Participate in daily classroom lessons, including appropriate interactions with students, small-group instruction, observations, and assessment.
  • Supervise student behavior independently and under Teacher direction using appropriate early childhood health and safety guidelines.
  • Provide program and clerical support by picking up snack menus, maintaining attendance and other records, and ordering and maintaining materials and supplies.
  • Prepare materials for a safe and healthy indoor/outdoor classroom environment, including daily snack preparation and sanitizing, and maintain classroom centers, materials, and equipment.
  • Participate in workshops and in-service training.
  • Work Monday through Friday day shifts with flexible and varying hours up to 40 hours per week depending on operational need; evening and weekend hours may also be required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and age-appropriate Protestant religion curriculum is preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk children and/or families is preferred.
