LG to mass-produce humanoid robot actuators by year-end as parts race intensifies

LG Electronics and LG Innotek are ramping up manufacturing capacity for humanoid robot components as Korean conglomerates compete in the supply chain. LG Electronics CEO Lyu Jae-cheol announced plans to establish mass production for its Axium actuator line by year-end, declaring 2026 the inaugural year of its humanoid robotics business. LG is targeting actuators, the motorised joints that move robot limbs and comprise over 40% of production costs, rather than focusing solely on finished robots. The company's experience with direct-drive motors for home appliances supports faster scale-up and quality control. LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo said the company is developing advanced sensing models, expecting large-scale output between 2027 and 2028. The shift towards standardised components has helped reduce robot bills of materials from approximately $250,000 in 2022 to below $50,000 in 2025.
