The investment follows a 2026 season of expanded commercial use: Greeneye-equipped machines have sprayed more than 500,000 acres across 12 U.S. states with a weed detection accuracy rate of over 98 percent. Use of the system's unique dual-line design achieved an average non-residual herbicide savings of 81 percent, saving an estimated six million gallons of chemical across field operations.
Syngenta and Japan's Kyoyu Agri have agreed to bring a new rice herbicide based on the active ingredient Cyclopyranil to selected markets in Asia. Kyoyu Agri developed the compound, and Syngenta will market products based on it across a number of Asian countries. Cyclopyranil is Syngenta's first rice herbicide that inhibits protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO). It controls broadleaf and grass weeds on contact, including those resistant to ACCase and ALS herbicides. It works at low application rates and can be used before or after weeds emerge. Researchers have documented more than 190 cases of herbicide-resistant weeds in rice production worldwide. "As herbicide resistance spreads, the effective toolbox of options available to rice farmers is steadily dwindling," said Ioana Tudor, Syngenta Crop Protection's global head of marketing.
