Requirements
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in public accounting and a minimum of 2 years in a senior manager position, with significant public-sector experience including audits of state and local governments.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • A current and valid Certified Public Accountant license is required.
  • Ability to travel to client and firm office locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a certified public accounting firm.
  • Significant experience conducting audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS/Yellow Book), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and the Uniform Guidance.
  • Ability to direct, review, and train departmental staff.
  • Exposure to conducting audits of not-for-profit organizations.
  • Ability to comply with all firm-wide policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain contact with clients throughout the year and develop thorough knowledge of their operations and control systems.
  • Assume the role of engagement partner or report directly to the engagement partner in accordance with firm policies.
  • Sign attest opinions as a firm representative when assigned the role of engagement partner.
  • Oversee all phases of engagements and ensure client deliverables comply with the applicable accounting framework and firm policy.
  • Inform the engagement partner of important client-account developments, identify potential engagement issues, and implement solutions after partner consultation.
  • Ensure engagements are properly scheduled.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the discipline or industry, specifically the governmental sector.
  • Ensure billing and collection practices are executed by engagement teams in accordance with firm policy.
  • Supervise staff assigned to engagements, provide on-the-job training, and review engagement-team work papers and reports.
  • Participate in staff performance evaluations, reviews, and periodic counseling.
  • Recruit and interview Assurance and Advisory candidates when needed.
  • Represent the firm in business-development matters and develop business contacts and referrals.
  • Lead assigned prospective-client opportunities, manage initial communications, generate fee estimates, and attend prospective-client meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with all firm-wide policies and procedures.
