- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Heart Saver CPR certification is required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant licensure is required.
- Current registration with the State of Maryland Board of Nursing Examiners of Nurses as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
- At least six months of direct patient-care experience is preferred.
- The ability to read and write English is required to provide basic patient care, understand and communicate detailed instructions relating to basic patient care, and perform simple calculations to take and record weights, vital signs, and routine information in patient charts.
- Interpersonal skills are required to interact with patients, visitors, physicians, and other staff in a courteous manner.
- Competence in safely handling medications is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of patient and workforce safety as related to job duties is required.
- Competency in delivering care and applying knowledge to meet age-specific patient needs, when applicable, is required.
- Employees must demonstrate honesty, integrity, good judgment, and respect for the cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients, families, and coworkers.
- Assist the professional nurse under direct supervision in providing direct and indirect patient care.
- Provide care, comfort, and safety for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a nurse.
- Use proper infection-prevention techniques.
- Perform and record delegated nursing-care procedures.
- Observe patients and report reactions or changes in condition to appropriate nursing personnel.
- Use resources conscientiously.
- Assist patients with basic activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, and oral hygiene, and change linens.
- Assist with patient mobility and turning as needed.
- Transfer or transport medications from one area to another as needed.
- Distribute patient trays and nourishments, fill water pitchers, assist patients with feeding when necessary, and collect trays at the end of meals as needed.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights, determine patient needs in a timely manner, respond to routine requests, and relay information to nursing personnel as needed.
- Treat patients, visitors, physicians, staff, and others with courtesy, fairness, kindness, and respect for personal dignity and privacy.
- Listen and respond appropriately to others’ needs, feelings, and capabilities.
- Meet or exceed customer expectations and pursue learning and self-development.
- Pay attention to detail and follow through.
- Set a positive, professional example and take ownership of problems to determine appropriate solutions.
- Plan and use required resources appropriately for job duties.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, address and resolve conflict positively, and seek others’ ideas to reach effective solutions.
