Our talented and diverse UX team delights users one design at a time, while building and enhancing a UX culture within Roku that nurtures our ongoing enrichment and elevates the UX maturity across the company and the industry. We believe that great user experiences come from people who have the vision to see the big picture on the macro side while still maintaining incredible attention to detail on the micro side. More than ability to keep the vision while managing the minutiae, we need someone who can play three-dimensional chess on the axes of what our customers need and what our world-class engineers can produce while keeping things as elegantly easy as possible.

About the Role     

Roku is looking for an experienced UX Researcher to run research initiatives on new and existing features for our consumer products that will enhance simplicity and delight, while balancing against monetization of our product experiences such as through subscriptions revenue.  We’re looking for someone who can be an independent thinker and influencer of product/design direction, while being a great team player both on the large UX research team and on project teams. 

For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $170,000 - $200,000 annually. 
Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.

What you’ll be doing  

• Develop, plan, and execute research initiatives that enhance the user experience
• Utilize your research insights to influence simple, effective, and delightful experiences with Roku products
• Collect and analyze user behavior through both generative and evaluative methodologies, including in-person and remote usability tests, interviews, surveys, diary studies, and more
• Effectively present research insights to diverse stakeholder audiences through written reports and presentations
• Work closely with Product Managers to identify the problems and business goals that your research will address
• Bring user research insights to a group of talented UX Designers as they innovate and design new features and products
• Collaborate with fellow world-class user researchers  

We’re excited if you have

• 3+ years’ experience as a UX Researcher, or VERY strong and hands-on experience in internship/academic positions

*Note that Roku has two UX research job grades, and this role is currently aimed at people that are not yet Senior level but are closer to Senior level than entry level.  That said, we are open to considering Senior-level researchers with 6+ years of experience if they seem like a near-perfect fit.     

• Proven skill with a broad methodological toolkit, ideally including interviews, usability testing, field studies, diary studies, surveys, and quantitative analysis
• Confidence in selecting the most appropriate methods for a given problem or question
• Experience collaborating with teams of designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers throughout the product development process
• Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills
• Ability to balance user needs with business needs such as product monetization
• Strong project management skills with the ability to define, plan, and lead projects forward
• Confidence with a range of research methods experience (not just focused on one type such as usability testing)
• Comfortable with accepting guidance from UXR managers, senior-level researchers, and key stakeholders in order for you to own research projects effectively and autonomously
