Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire; Basic Life Support through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Candidates must be familiar with medical office procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians as they assess, examine, and treat patients.
  • Manage patient flow and perform diagnostic procedures such as electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, injections, and vital-sign measurements.
  • Act as a liaison to physicians to support patient satisfaction.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with workplace values.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure proper patient identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in the use and documentation requirements of information technology systems within the established scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, including electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality patient care.
  • Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy and security requirements.
  • Maintain inventory by ordering clinical supplies needed for smooth office operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting is preferred.
  • For New Jersey locations, graduate from an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in administering intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
