About the job

Requirements
  • Significant experience in transaction monitoring, fraud, or broader financial-crime operations within a regulated financial-services environment, including ownership of operational performance and complex case decisions.
  • Proven experience leading and developing an operational team responsible for alert queues or investigations, combining effective coaching with a hands-on player-coach approach when needed.
  • Strong understanding of first-line alert handling, including triage, investigation, typology, escalation, and distinguishing fraud cases from AML cases.
  • Good working knowledge of French and European AML/CFT expectations, including ACPR and TRACFIN requirements, and experience translating policy into standard operating procedures, decision trees, and analyst guidance.
  • Experience working with Product or Tech on workflow or tooling changes.
  • Sound judgement on what to automate, what to sample, and what to escalate.
  • Ability to use operational metrics to manage quality, backlogs, and capacity.
  • Ability to make structured, well-documented decisions under pressure and communicate complex cases clearly to operational and compliance stakeholders.
  • Comfort building operations in a greenfield environment where volumes are still uncertain and tooling is evolving.
  • Fluent French and English are mandatory.
  • Must be based in France; Paris is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end first-line transaction monitoring and fraud operations for business customers, ensuring that alert triage, investigations, customer outreach, and escalations are completed in line with policies set by Compliance and Risk and within agreed SLAs.
  • Translate AML/CFT and fraud policies into operational procedures, decision trees, and analyst playbooks, and provide evidence-based recommendations on alert quality and operational bottlenecks.
  • Review complex or high-risk alerts within the first-line mandate, oversee post-onboarding fraud cases, and ensure that escalations, customer complaints, and law-enforcement requests are handled with complete, auditable records.
  • Implement the QA and reporting framework, monitor operational and risk indicators, and support Compliance during controls testing, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Recruit, onboard, and lead the transaction monitoring and fraud analyst team, combining hands-on support with coaching and a culture of rigour, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Establish the team’s performance and capacity framework, covering SLAs, productivity, quality, backlogs, false-positive rates, and hiring needs.
  • Partner with Product and Tech to test and improve transaction-monitoring, fraud, and back-office workflows, prioritising automation while identifying the controls and decisions that should remain manual.
  • Deliver approved operating procedures, analyst playbooks, and escalation rules before go-live.
  • Establish a capacity and hiring plan based on observed alert volumes and handling times.
  • Validate that alert queues, evidence collection, account measures, and second-line handovers work operationally before launch.
  • By go-live, have first-line monitoring operational for new customers, with trained coverage, agreed SLAs, documented QA controls, and named escalation owners.
  • Maintain regular on-site presence in Paris; partial remote work is possible.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to ACPR expectations, a licensing programme, a BaaS migration, or law-enforcement requests would be an advantage.

Qonto and Pennylane: French fintech friends and foes vie for SME market dominance

Qonto and Pennylane, two Paris-based fintechs, operate as both partners and competitors in Europe's SME financial services market. Qonto, founded in 2016 and valued at $5 billion, serves over 600,000 customers across eight European countries with business banking, corporate cards and bookkeeping tools. Pennylane, founded in 2020 and valued at $4.25 billion, has over 800,000 customers using its all-in-one accounting and financial management platform. Whilst both companies integrate with each other's services, they increasingly compete for business. The rivalry will intensify as France introduces mandatory electronic invoicing for B2B transactions in September. Qonto is pursuing a French banking licence to offer lending products, whilst Pennylane recently raised $200 million to fund potential acquisitions. Qonto's managing director emphasises their different customer acquisition strategies, though both target traditional financial incumbents.
