JOB TITLE:
Branding Iron Staff Writer
JOB PURPOSE:
The Staff Writer researches, reports and produces accurate, engaging content for the Branding Iron newspaper, digital platforms and WyoWire broadcasting. The position develops stories for multiple formats and works collaboratively with other Student Media staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produce at least three stories per week.
- Research, report and write news, feature and enterprise stories.
- Produce content for print, web, social media and broadcast.
- Conduct interviews, attend events and gather information from reliable sources.
- Write clear, accurate and engaging copy for multiple audiences and platforms.
- Assist with video, audio and multimedia reporting as assigned.
- Meet deadlines and follow Student Media editorial standards.
- Verify facts, names, quotes and other information before publication.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers and broadcast staff.
- Participate in training, staff meetings and newsroom activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be enrolled as a student and maintain satisfactory academic standing.
- Strong writing, reporting and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Ability to conduct interviews and research information accurately.
- Basic understanding of news writing and journalistic ethics.
- Willingness to learn multimedia, digital and broadcast storytelling.
- Must be available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Must be available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of AP and BI stylebooks
- Knowledge of basic journalistic style and how to write newspaper articles.

WORK LOCATION:
On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
