Requirements
  • Education: PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years as an AI/ML researcher with shipped research artifacts (models, systems, or tools in production), including 2+ years building LLM-based systems.
  • Model training depth: You have run multi-stage training pipelines (pretraining, fine-tuning, post-training) and can diagnose training failures from loss curves, gradient norms, and evaluation metrics — not just restart the job.
  • Technical specialization: Deep expertise in at least one of: domain-specific model adaptation, multimodal learning, reinforcement learning from human feedback, knowledge-grounded generation, or retrieval-augmented systems. You've published or shipped production work in your area.
  • Distributed systems: Hands-on experience with distributed training at scale (DeepSpeed, FSDP, Megatron-LM, or equivalent). You understand data parallelism vs. model parallelism and know when each matters.
  • Software engineering: Production-grade Python, clean abstractions, tested code. You build tools others depend on.
Responsibilities
  • Own and orchestrate end-to-end research programs using massively parallel agentic AI — from problem formulation through production deployment, designing agent-driven experiment campaigns that simultaneously explore model architectures, training regimes, data strategies, and evaluation criteria at a pace and breadth that redefines what a single researcher can accomplish
  • Go deep: drive breakthrough domain-specific model quality — lead multi-stage training pipelines, domain adaptation, RL-based optimization (RLHF, DPO, reward modeling), and training dynamics analysis, using agentic systems to run exhaustive ablations, hyperparameter sweeps, and failure-mode investigations in parallel
  • Go broad: span modalities, methods, and domains simultaneously — design and train multimodal systems (text, images, tables, charts, technical documents), knowledge graph pipelines, hybrid retrieval architectures, and structured reasoning systems, delegating exploration and prototyping across these fronts to parallel agent workflows so you can synthesize cross-cutting insights in real time
  • Architect agentic data and training infrastructure — build agent-orchestrated pipelines for domain-specific data curation, quality filtering, preprocessing, and large-scale training that the entire research team can leverage to go faster
  • Mentor AI Researchers in the agentic paradigm — coach team members on how to amplify their own depth and breadth by designing effective agent workflows, raising the ceiling on what every researcher can achieve
  • Compress the research-to-production cycle — take prototypes to production-ready systems rapidly by leveraging agentic CI/CD, automated integration testing, and continuous evaluation harnesses, collaborating closely with engineering, product, and domain experts
  • Build force-multiplying knowledge systems — document findings, publish at top-tier venues, and contribute to internal knowledge infrastructure that agentic tools can index and reason over, turning every breakthrough into compounding team-wide leverage
  • Model the augmented researcher — continuously identify bottlenecks in your own and the team's workflows, then design or adopt efficient, scalable solutions that eliminate them — treating the maximization of human potential as a first-class research output
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience adapting models to specialized domains where standard benchmarks don't apply — you've had to define what "correct" means and build evaluation around it.
  • Track record of taking a research prototype to a production system serving real users.
  • Experience with knowledge graph construction, hybrid retrieval architectures, or structured reasoning systems in practice — not just in papers.
  • Strong publication record with evidence of depth, not just breadth.
  • Cloud-native ML infrastructure experience (Kubernetes, distributed job scheduling, GPU cluster management).
  • Practice Humility: You stay open to being wrong — even on problems you've studied for years. You actively seek perspectives that challenge your assumptions and create space for junior researchers to teach you something new.
  • Bias for Outcomes: You own the outcome end-to-end, from research question to production impact. You know the difference between interesting work and important work, and you choose the latter. Dates and scope are commitments, not suggestions.
  • Care Deeply: You treat your team's problems as your own. You give honest, specific feedback because you care about the person's growth, not just the project. When something is broken, you fix it or flag it — you never walk past it.
  • Dare to Do the Impossible & Embrace Scarcity: You pursue research directions others have written off. You use resource constraints as forcing functions for creative solutions, not excuses. Your ambition is calibrated to what the problem demands, not what feels safe.
  • Build a Better World: You hold yourself to the standard that your work should make the enterprise smarter, not just the model better. You mentor others because raising the bar for the whole team is how you multiply impact.

Our Investment in Articul8

Its investment in Articul8. Lightscape Partners is excited to share that Articul8 has announced a Series B financing led by Adara Ventures, with participation from NXC Corporation, Aditya Birla Ventures, and other strategic investors. The round is expected to total approximately $70M and values the company at over $500M, representing a meaningful step up from its initial investment in early 2024. When Lightscape Partners first partnered with Articul8, Lightscape Partners believed there was a clear gap in the enterprise AI landscape. While general-purpose models were advancing rapidly, they fell short in real enterprise environments where data is fragmented, highly sensitive, and governed by strict regulatory and operational constraints. In these settings, domain-specific AI systems deployed directly within customer environments are far more effective than shared, horizontal solutions. What makes this problem especially difficult is not model quality alone, but everything surrounding production deployment. Enterprises need AI systems that integrate deeply with legacy infrastructure, respect complex data permissions, operate reliably at scale, and withstand scrutiny from compliance, security, and legal teams. Maintaining performance over time requires continuous monitoring, retraining, and governance, often across heterogeneous on-prem and hybrid environments. Very few teams have the technical depth, operational discipline, and enterprise credibility to solve this end to end. Lightscape Partners believed Arun and the Articul8 team were uniquely positioned to tackle this challenge. They built a platform that enables enterprises to safely deploy and operate powerful, customized AI within their own infrastructure, without compromising on security, control, or reliability. Since its investment, the team has continued to validate this thesis through execution, customer adoption, and now a strong vote of confidence from a global investor base. At Lightscape, Lightscape Partners remain committed to backing companies building at the frontier of AI infrastructure, robotics, deep tech, data, and applied systems that become core to enterprise operations. Lightscape Partners look for technical depth, thoughtful go to market execution, stickiness in real workflows, and the potential to compound over time through meaningful customer impact. Lightscape Partners is always keen to meet founders and operators building hardware or software systems that drive real change. Reach out if this resonates. About Lightscape Partners Lightscape Partners invests in early stage companies in and around the AI ecosystem including the application layer, infra layer, data, compute, energy, and robotics. Some of its portfolio companies include Etched, Fulcra Dynamics, Profitmind, Private AI, Vizit, Shield AI, and Standard Bots, among others. The goal at Lightscape is not just to provide commoditized capital but help its portfolio companies with as much involvement as the founders see fit (be it through strategic insights, cross-portfolio collaboration, generating new product and sales opportunities, making key introductions or helping professionalize businesses). Lightscape was founded by Jim Rowen and Sohail Khalid who bring extensive experience in C-suite, founder, and advisor roles with expertise in professionalizing, automating, and driving growth at both large and small businesses. Jim was most recently partner/board member/COO of Renaissance Technologies, while Sohail has experience founding and exiting multiple startups of his own. About Articul8 Articul8 AI is a technology company whose products transform enterprise data and expertise into powerful engines of growth, value and impact. Its full-stack GenAI platform is revolutionizing how enterprises harness their data and expertise to build expert-level Generative AI applications for their mission-critical challenges. Articul8, a spinout from Intel, raises over $35M at $500M valuation

Articul8, a spinout from Intel, raises over $35M at $500M valuation. Articul8, an enterprise AI company spun out of Intel in early 2024, has secured more than half of a planned $70 million funding round at a $500 million pre-money valuation, according to its CEO, as it looks to capitalize on growing demand for AI systems in regulated industries. The Series B funding round is structured in two installments, with the first led by Spain's Adara Ventures, Articul8 founder and CEO Arun K. Subramaniyan (pictured above, center) said in an interview. He declined to disclose the size of the initial installment, but said the company expects to close the round in the first quarter of this year. Articul8's valuation for its current funding round marks a roughly fivefold increase from the company's $100 million post-money Series A valuation in January 2024. Since then, the Santa Clara-based company said it has surpassed $90 million in total contract value - the cumulative value of all signed customer contracts - from 29 paying customers, including Hitachi Energy, AWS, Franklin Templeton, and Intel. Subramaniyan told TechCrunch that Articul8 was not under pressure to raise capital, describing the company as revenue-positive following a series of large enterprise contracts. The company expects to finish the year with annual recurring revenue of just over $57 million, Subramaniyan said, with roughly 45% to 50% of that already recognized. Articul8 develops specialized AI systems that operate within customers' own IT environments, rather than relying on shared, general-purpose models. Instead of selling standalone models, the company packages its technology as software applications and AI agents tailored to specific business functions, targeting regulated industries such as energy, manufacturing, aerospace, financial services, and semiconductors, where accuracy, auditability, and data control are critical. "Our competition is pretty much everybody," said Subramaniyan. "But today, the major competitors are the cloud service providers, because they have realized that their model, as the general-purpose [offerings], are all commodities." He added that Articul8's focus on specialized systems appeals to customers who need predictable results and clear audit trails, something that is harder to achieve with general-purpose models run on shared cloud platforms. Articul8 plans to use the Series B proceeds primarily to expand research and product development and to scale its operations internationally, with a focus on Europe and parts of Asia. Adara Ventures' participation will help speed-up the European expansion plan, as the European Investment Fund backs the Madrid-based VC firm's energy fund, Subramaniyan said. The company is also looking to scale in markets including Japan and South Korea, where it has begun working with large enterprise customers, he noted. India's Aditya Birla Ventures also participated in the ongoing round, Subramaniyan stated. Articul8 works with large tech groups including Nvidia and Google Cloud, Subramaniyan said, adding that Amazon Web Services is both a customer and a partner for the company on some deployments. The company employs 75 people, with about 80% focused on R&D, and teams spread across the U.S., Brazil, and India.

Articul8 reels in $35M+ for its AI application platform

Articul8 reels in $35M+ for its AI application platform. Articul8 AI Inc., a startup that helps companies build artificial intelligence applications, has closed the first tranche of a $70 million funding round. TechCrunch reported today that the investment was worth over $35 million. Adara Ventures led the deal with participation from chipmaker NXC Corp., Aditya Birla Ventures and others. Articul8 is now valued at more than $500 million. Santa Clara, California-based Articul8 spun out of Intel Corp. in 2024 with the backing of DigitalBridge, a private equity firm currently being acquired by SoftBank Group Corp. It sells an AI platform derived from technologies developed by the chip giant. Intel uses the software to power an AI assistant that helps its engineers troubleshoot fab equipment. According to Articul8, its platform also lends itself to a range of other use cases. The software includes a collection of prepackaged AI agents that each focus on a different set of tasks. One analyzes manufacturers' engineering diagrams to find ways of making production lines more efficient. Another helps utilities optimize grid infrastructure. Articul8 also provides agents for banks, carmakers and other companies. The newest addition to Articul8's agent lineup, the Table Understanding Agent, debuted last month. It's designed to extract information from spreadsheets. According to Articul8, the agent is better than ChatGPT at data interpretation tasks such as determining whether a text snippet is the title of a column or a table. The agents that ship with Articul8's platform are based on custom AI models. Companies can use those models to build automation applications. Articul8 says that custom AI software can be deployed on its platform in under ten weeks, which is about four times faster than the rollout times offered by the competition. A built-in tool called LLM IQ Agent API helps developers identify the most suitable AI model for a new application. Usually, comparing AI models requires software teams to put together custom evaluation datasets, which can take a significant amount of time. Articul8 says the LLM IQ Agent API skips that step. Some applications use not one but multiple AI models. Articul8's platform includes a module called ModelMesh that can coordinate the models used by a service, monitor their performance and generate audit logs. The module works with not only the platform's built-in models but also third-party algorithms. Articul8 expects to generate $57 million in revenue this year. It currently has 29 customers, including Intel, Amazon Web Services Inc. and other tech industry players, and plans to grow its installed base by investing its newly raised funding in feature development and international expansion initiatives. The company expects to close its Series B round later this quarter.
