About the job

Requirements
  • Extensive engineering design and architecture experience, ideally within complex, multi-disciplinary technical environments.
  • Strong systems-thinking capability, with the ability to understand how physical engineering, systems, networks, data centres, communications and infrastructure interact as a complete solution.
  • Proven experience in developing and governing engineering architectures, reference designs, design standards and technical design principles.
  • Strong technical decision-making skills, with the confidence to make and defend architectural decisions where there are competing technical or commercial considerations.
  • Strong design review and technical assurance experience, including the ability to identify design weaknesses, technical risks, integration issues and single points of failure.
  • Excellent interface management skills, particularly where responsibility crosses engineering teams, departments, suppliers or external engineering partners.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, project teams, senior management, customers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence without direct line-management authority, working effectively through Engineering Leads, Design Engineers and Subject Matter Experts.
Responsibilities
  • Provide significant technical leadership and support to the Project Engineering Manager, acting as a senior technical decision-maker and design authority within the Project Engineering function.
  • Work closely with the Global Engineering Lead during the handover of system designs into Project Engineering, ensuring that designs consider practical field deployment, installation, commissioning, maintainability and operational requirements.
  • Ensure that individual engineering disciplines are developed as part of a single integrated solution, rather than operating as independent technical silos, ensuring appropriate interfaces and dependencies are defined and managed.
  • Define and maintain architectural principles, design patterns and reference architectures that provide a consistent and reusable approach across projects and programmes.
  • Provide technical direction where architectural decisions cross multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring that the overall solution remains coherent and aligned with SRT's engineering strategy.
  • Act as the senior engineering escalation point for complex architectural and cross-disciplinary technical issues, providing recommendations and decisions where issues cannot be resolved within individual engineering workstreams.
  • Own and maintain the architectural governance process, including design reviews, technical deviations, design standards, technical risk, interface management and architectural decision-making.
  • Chair technical design reviews for significant or complex solutions where appropriate.
  • Ensure engineering solutions are designed with operationalisation, standardisation and reuse in mind, identifying opportunities to develop repeatable architectures, designs and engineering solutions that can be deployed across multiple projects.
  • Establish and maintain the appropriate division of design responsibility between the company and in-country partners, ensuring that design ownership, technical responsibilities, interfaces and deliverables are clearly defined while maintaining overall architectural integrity.
  • Provide forward-looking technical direction, ensuring that current project engineering designs consider future project requirements, technology adoption, scalability, obsolescence and opportunities for reuse.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to Design Engineers, Engineering Leads and Subject Matter Experts, supporting the development of engineering capability and consistency across the team.
  • Support the Project Engineering Manager in establishing engineering priorities and technical strategy, providing technical insight into resource requirements, engineering risks, design maturity and areas requiring additional technical capability.
Desired Qualifications
  • A relevant role-related degree is ideally attained, but applications from extremely experienced candidates are also welcomed.

What believers are saying

  • FY2025 revenue jumped 426% to £78.0 million, proving delivery scale.
  • March 2026 signed contracts lifted active and pending projects above £600 million.
  • Philippine courts cleared Simon Tucker in March 2026, removing a reputational overhang.

What critics are saying

  • US$261 million activation still depends on UKEF financing, delaying revenue recognition.
  • AIM dilution hit twice in 2026 after April's oversubscribed placing and retail offer.
  • One sovereign contract failure would damage credibility, cash flow, and future pipeline conversions.

What makes SRT Marine Systems unique

  • SRT sells sovereign maritime surveillance systems, not commodity navigation hardware.
  • Its national-scale MDA platform embeds sensors, software, and project delivery into one stack.
  • The company already signed a US$261 million sovereign contract in March 2026.

SRT Marine Systems revenue surges 426% as order pipeline hits £1.8bn.

SRT Marine Systems revenue surges 426% as order pipeline hits £1.8bn. SRT Marine Systems revenue surged 426% to £78.0m for the year ended 30 June 2025, up from £14.8m the prior year, according to the group's SRT Marine Systems annual report. The AIM-listed company, currently trading at around 80p and capitalised at roughly £220m, reported a profit before tax and exceptional one-off non-cash finance charge of £4.9m. SRT Marine Systems revenue and margin gains. The MDA systems division drove the bulk of revenues, contributing £68.5m. The navigation safety business added £9.5m. Group gross profit margin widened to 31% from 28% in the prior year, a gain that reflects the increasing scale of system contract delivery. The revenue step-change is not a one-quarter event. The London Stock Exchange filing for SRT's half-year report published on 16 March 2026 showed revenues up 95% to £51.1m for that period alone, indicating the momentum has carried into the current financial year. Pipeline, contracts and the cash position. The new system contract prospects pipeline stood at £1.8bn as at the FY2025 results, up from £1.2bn at the time of the FY2024 annual report, according to DirectorsTalk coverage of the results. Post the year end, the group received notification of an award from a new sovereign customer for a substantial maritime surveillance system. The contract is expected to be worth approximately US$200m, subject to completion of the project contract and a project financing package. On 8 May 2026, SRT announced a £5m System Support Contract, as filed via Investegate regulatory news. Support contracts of this type typically follow the delivery phase of larger system deployments and provide recurring revenue. The group also completed an oversubscribed placing and an oversubscribed retail offer in April 2026, with results announced on 14 and 15 April 2026 respectively. The dual raise, both tranches covered in full, strengthened the balance sheet ahead of further contract delivery. On cash, the annual report shows unrestricted cash of £4.3m at 30 June 2025, rising to £13.6m by 30 September 2025. The group also held restricted cash of £5,675,894 at the 30 June 2025 year end. The shares peaked at 99p in early January 2026, having traded at 40p in early December 2024. At 80p, they sit inside the 52-week range of 68.28p to 99.00p, with the consensus one-year analyst price target at 122p, according to Yahoo Finance data. The gap between the current price and both the recent high and the analyst target leaves the question of timing. The pending formalisation of the approximately US$200m sovereign contract, once project financing is secured, represents the most concrete near-term catalyst for a reassessment of the shares.
