Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Zero to one year of experience as an M.D., including successful completion of a residency at an accredited healthcare institution.
  • Ability to provide diagnostic treatment and counseling services.
  • Ability to analyze situations and take effective action.
  • Current valid license or certification to practice medicine in Nevada.
  • Unrestricted DEA Certificate with a Nevada address.
  • Board certification with a current certificate in the specialty area.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid Nevada Board of Pharmacy License.
  • Must obtain USC Credentialing from the governing board within 120 days of hire.
  • If the Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) card is not held at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed before expiration; this is required only within LA City.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and manage direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a specified patient population; emphasize health education and preventive care where appropriate.
  • Take adequate histories of patients with medical problems, maintain accurate and current medical records, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Counsel patients on medical, psychological, personal, and health-related matters; refer them for medical or other treatment when appropriate and provide medical treatment where appropriate.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Refer patients to specialists and relevant patient-care components, including partnering with Counseling Services staff for cases involving mental health problems.
  • Review histories, examinations, and treatment plans prepared by physician assistants and nurse practitioners; function in a supervisory role as needed.
  • Follow departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection-control standards.
  • Participate in specified health promotion, education, and prevention programs as appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain professional affiliations, licenses, and certifications, and stay current on developments in medicine.
  • Cover after-hours calls as needed.
  • Manage patients with chronic controlled and uncontrolled comorbidities.
  • Collaborate with care coordination staff to oversee multidisciplinary care involving various low-risk specialists.
  • Manage transitions of care for patients with multiple low-risk hospitalizations.
  • Work with the contracted utilization management company to discuss patients with complex diagnoses and/or refer high-risk patients to appropriate specialty services, including assisting with home health needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; duties may be added or changed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as an M.D.
  • Bilingual Spanish ability, including understanding and making oneself understood to Spanish-speaking individuals.
