Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technician by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or an equivalent certification is required.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification is required.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Demonstrate understanding, patience, and tact when dealing with physicians and fellow workers.
  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Work in an air-conditioned environment with temperatures of 65–73 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity of 45–55%; pediatric cases may reach 85–90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Wear hospital-provided scrub attire while on duty.
  • Work safely around potential cuts, bruises, muscle strains, contagious diseases and bodily fluids, anesthesia waste gases, ethylene oxide, harsh disinfectants, sterilizing agents, high steam pressure agents, and radiation.
  • Work with employees at various levels of skill, knowledge, and abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to obstetrical and neonatal patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse.
  • Perform the surgical scrub role for obstetrically related surgical procedures.
  • Maintain an aseptic environment during setup for surgery or delivery and throughout surgical procedures.
  • Maintain and stock supplies and equipment throughout the Labor and Delivery Suite, including recovery and operating rooms.
  • Assist with perioperative care as outlined in policy and procedure manuals.
  • Assist with deliveries as necessary.
  • Assist with other aspects of unit operations as assigned.

  • One year of related experience is preferred.
