Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of customer service experience is required, within a stated range of one to three years.
  • Obtain the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation by passing the CUNA Financial Certification Program exam.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills for interviewing loan applicants and cross-selling credit union services.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills for professional communication.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve member financial needs.
  • Have knowledge of risk management and loss prevention.
  • Be an accurate typist and handle cash and transactions accurately.
  • Organize and prioritize work with minimum supervision.
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, IRA Service Center Software, and the internet.
  • Operate, or be trainable to operate, related office equipment including biometric safe-deposit-box access, calculators, cash dispense machines, laser and receipt printers, coin and currency counters, cash recyclers, coin scan machines, computer terminals, multifunction copiers, check and identification scanners, VISA instant-issue machines, cash advance machines, and telephones.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Responsibilities
  • Develop new business by promoting credit union services to new and existing members.
  • Provide consistent, courteous, and personal service to members and communicate professionally with members, employees, and staff.
  • Analyze member needs and match products and services to strengthen member relationships and support financial stewardship.
  • Open and maintain consumer accounts, including youth accounts, certificates, individual retirement accounts, Coverdell accounts, and health savings accounts, and explain ownership options.
  • Demonstrate automated services, including interactive teller machines, online banking, bill pay, and automated teller machine assistance.
  • Open new accounts, revise existing accounts, complete direct-deposit requests and internal transfers, and update accounts.
  • Provide financial counseling to members after completing the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor program.
  • Obtain documentation for business-account requests and refer those accounts to business-account specialists.
  • Recognize and refer mortgage leads to the mortgage department.
  • Process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, check cashing, cash advances, cashier's checks, VISA gift and travel money cards, and United States Savings Bond redemptions.
  • Investigate member account problems and complaints, determine fee and charge refunds, and make recommendations to the Branch Manager.
  • Rent safe-deposit boxes, complete initial documentation, collect initial rent, and allow assigned member access.
  • Issue instant-issue cards using the card wizard instant-issue system.
  • Perform account maintenance, order member checks, process wires and stop-payment requests, process fraud and theft claims, order member-record copies, and close accounts.
  • Make outbound calls and provide notary or signature-guarantee services.
  • Process requests using the credit union's automated systems.
  • Accept garnishments and levies as served and submit them for processing when approved by the manager.
  • Work toward assigned branch goals for deposits, loans, debt protection, GAP, and MMP.
  • Cross-offer services and make referrals to support branch goals and the credit union's strategic plan.
  • Assist with business-development contacts, including onsite visits to potential and existing select employee groups.
  • Refer potential select employee groups to marketing for follow-up.
  • Interview consumer loan applicants; explain loan options, rates, terms, and collateral requirements; prepare documents; obtain employment and proof of income; obtain credit reports; assess needs; finalize loans; and disburse funds.
  • Communicate with underwriters who make loan decisions and notify members of loan decisions.
  • Follow up on approved loans through disbursement, including closing approved home equity lines of credit.
  • Maintain current knowledge of credit union loan products and home equity line origination and closing rules and regulations.
  • Complete paperwork for loan changes and submit it for approval.
  • Offer eligible borrowers ancillary loan products and provide the opportunity to purchase additional loan protection.
  • Perform teller duties, including opening, closing, and accurately balancing the branch.
  • Balance a cash box, cash dispense machine, recycler, or branch vault as assigned.
  • Recognize member needs and recommend appropriate credit union products and services.
  • Maintain attention to detail and accuracy of work, audit individual work, and resolve errors promptly.
  • Identify and communicate product or service issues or improvements to the Branch Manager.
  • Follow credit union policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and financial-integrity standards.
  • Complete required regulatory and assigned training on time.
  • Assist with opening and closing security procedures for credit union offices.
  • Read internal publications and perform other assigned duties.
