Requirements
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design software such as CATIA, AutoCAD, or equivalent design tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Understanding of nuclear design principles, safety-critical systems, and fundamental nuclear engineering concepts.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey technical information.
  • Ability to work effectively within collaborative teams.
  • Knowledge of quality-assurance processes and regulatory compliance in engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine technical designs for nuclear components and systems using computer-aided design software and design tools.
  • Perform detailed technical analyses and calculations to support design decisions and validate performance requirements.
  • Create complete technical drawings, specifications, and documentation in accordance with nuclear-industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical challenges and optimize designs.
  • Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Research and stay informed about nuclear-design standards, codes, and best practices, including ASME and International Atomic Energy Agency requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of design reports and technical documentation for internal and regulatory-authority review.
  • Participate in design meetings and contribute constructively to team discussions and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Participate in modeling and simulation of nuclear systems to evaluate performance and safety characteristics.
  • Organize project files and documentation to ensure traceability and compliance with quality-assurance protocols.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with finite element analysis software and modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge of nuclear regulatory frameworks and industry standards, including ASME and International Atomic Energy Agency standards or equivalents.
  • Prior experience in a regulated industry or a design environment where safety is paramount.
  • Basic project-management experience or knowledge of project-management methodologies.
  • Experience with technical documentation and preparation of specifications.

Lochner appoints Karen Wiemelt to board with 35 years of nuclear and energy leadership

Lochner, an Egis Group company, has appointed Karen Wiemelt to its Board of Directors. Wiemelt brings over 35 years of leadership experience in the nuclear and energy sectors, with expertise in programme management, environmental remediation and strategic planning. Wiemelt previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Jacobs, where she led the company's global Energy, Security and Technology business unit. In that role, she managed a portfolio exceeding $1.5 billion in annual revenue and over 8,000 employees worldwide. She has also served on numerous industry and corporate boards. Founded in 1944, Lochner merged with Egis Group in July 2025, positioning it as the cornerstone of Egis' US growth strategy. Wiemelt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
