Musk launches Grok Voice 3.0 for call centres as AI cuts support jobs, at $0.08 per minute

Elon Musk's xAI launched Grok Voice 3.0 on October 14, a speech-to-speech model aimed at customer service. It responds in under one second, and xAI says it scored 86.9 on Artificial Analysis' Speech-to-Speech Index, ahead of GPT-Live-1 and Gemini 3.8 Live. Starlink call centres use Grok Voice to handle about 20,000 calls a day, according to xAI. Roughly 70% are resolved without a human, and one in four sales calls ends in a purchase. Artificial Analysis put the cost at about $0.025 per task, against $0.030 for GPT-Live-1 and $0.055 for GPT-Realtime-2.1. xAI prices its API at $0.08 per minute. The launch comes as global call-centre employment sits 5.3% below its December 2023 peak. Salesforce says AI helped cut its customer-service staff from 9,000 to about 5,000.

xAI launches bundle it says cuts three-plan cost from $90 to $30.

xAI launches bundle it says cuts three-plan cost from $90 to $30. The X Subscription combines Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. xAI says the plans include at least twice as much coding usage with its models as comparable Cursor plans, usable through the bundled coding service. xAI, the sole source for the announcement, launched The X Subscription on October 12, 2026, bringing Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium into one plan. The company says the $30-a-month Premium tier includes the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which previously cost $90 a month combined.[1] According to xAI, Grok supports chat, voice, and image and video generation. The company describes Grok Bot as providing work assistants, while Cursor supplies coding agents - software that carries out programming tasks - on users' computers and in the cloud. X adds a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads, with higher tiers removing ads from the timeline entirely.[1] Prices and included allowances. Monthly prices and relative usage allowances listed by xAI. | Plan | Monthly price | Included usage | | Free | $0 | Limited | | Plus | $8 | Base allowance | | Premium | $30 | 4 times Plus | | Super | $100 | 15 times Plus | | Ultra | $200 | 50 times Plus | The free tier includes daily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agents and standard X. Plus adds more Grok and Cursor usage alongside the X checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads. Super and Ultra retain the Premium features with larger allowances.[1] The listed multiples are relative allowances, not absolute usage limits. xAI's announcement does not give full eligibility terms and directs customers to its pricing page for detailed usage and eligibility information.[1] Grok usage is shared; other models cost extra. xAI says paid plans draw from one Grok-model usage pool across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor. That means using Grok models in the chat service or the coding service draws on the same included allowance. The company says each comparable new tier provides more usage per dollar than the plan it replaces.[1] Models from other providers remain available in Cursor on Premium and higher tiers, but they are outside that pool. xAI says their usage is billed separately through top-ups at API list prices - the published rates for accessing those models through software.[1] Existing subscribers can keep their plans. xAI announced availability for new customers from October 12 and said it planned to make the subscription available to everyone globally over the next few days.[1] Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers can keep their current plan, price and features. xAI says the option to switch is rolling out through account billing settings; subscribers who switch receive a prorated refund for their old plan. Current subscribers can check those settings to see whether switching is available for their account.[1] Sources. Join the list for future editions.

Milan Dragway auction puts track's future in focus.

Milan Dragway auction puts track's future in focus. October 8, 2026 Milan Dragway is up for sale again, about 18 months after its latest ownership change, as Darana Motorsports Holdings moves to sell a dozen racing properties across the country. The 317-acre property at 10860 Plank Road is being offered through Tranzon Atlas, with sealed bids due Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. Central. Pre-auction offers are also being accepted, meaning the property could sell sooner. Darana Motorsports Holdings CEO Darryl Cuttell told Drag Illustrated that the company's business had taken "a different direction" than originally anticipated and that he had decided to exit the racing business. He said the goal is to complete the sales by the end of the year. Cuttell also owns the International Hot Rod Association, which finalized its purchase of Milan Dragway in April 2025. At the time, track officials announced plans for improvements and said the goal was to make Milan one of the country's premier drag strips. For now, racing is continuing. Darana Dragway-Milan posted on Oct. 6 that it was "Business as usual" while promoting upcoming racing. What happens after a sale is less certain. Tranzon describes the property as a functioning motorsports facility with a quarter-mile racing surface, pits and event facilities, café and grill facilities and the Milan MX Track, which is leased to an outside operator. The listing also highlights the property's acreage and road frontage as offering potential for "expansion or development." That language has raised questions among some residents about whether the property could eventually be used for something other than racing, including a data center. There is currently no public indication that a data center developer is pursuing the Milan property or that it is being marketed specifically for that use. The dragway is in London Township, which recently adopted new regulations for data centers. On Sept. 14, the Township Board approved a zoning ordinance allowing data centers as a special use in industrial zoning districts and establishing standards for their siting, operation and decommissioning. The ordinance says data centers are permitted only in industrial zoning districts with special approval. The township also adopted a temporary moratorium on considering data center applications while officials continue studying their potential impacts and local regulations. The sale comes amid a federal contract dispute involving another Cuttell-owned company and Elon Musk's xAI. Darana Hybrid performed data center work for xAI in the Memphis area. xAI and related companies sued Darana Hybrid, Cuttell Motorsports and Cuttell in August. The defendants have denied allegations against them and are seeking dismissal of the amended complaint. Cuttell has not publicly said the dispute led to the decision to sell the racing properties. Milan is one of 12 tracks being offered for sale by Darana Motorsports Holdings. Tranzon has said it expects interest from the racing community, while also noting that some properties could appeal to developers and real estate investors. The Milan property is being sold as is, with a 10% buyer's premium, a 10% deposit and closing within 30 days. For racers and fans, nothing has changed immediately. The track remains open and events are still being promoted. The larger question is what happens when a buyer is found: Will Milan Dragway remain a racetrack?

SpaceX calls for better coordination in orbit after near-misses with Starlink.

SpaceX calls for better coordination in orbit after near-misses with Starlink. Arstechica 5 hours ago 40 Space has plenty of room for more megaconstellations, but only if all operators are willing to share information about where their satellites are and where they're going, a top executive at SpaceX and its AI subsidiary said this week. Michael Nicolls, SpaceX's vice president for Starlink and president of Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, used a presentation Tuesday at the International Astronautical Congress in Turkey as a clarion call for improved data-sharing among satellite operators. SpaceX's Starlink constellation now has more than 11,000 satellites, about two-thirds of all active spacecraft in low-Earth orbit. Radars and telescopes routinely track thousands more pieces of space junk. SpaceXAI invests $1.5 million in compute resources for controversial Linux distro Omarchy. Today, SpaceXAI announced its partnership with the Omacom Foundation to support the Linux distribution, Omarchy, with a generous donation of $1.5 million worth of Grok tokens. This collaboration positions SpaceXAI as a Founding Corporate Patron, aimed at expediting development efforts, code reviews, and bug fixes for the platform. Omarchy has gained attention not only for its tech ambitions but also for its contentious co-founder, David Heinemeier Hansson, famous for creating Ruby on Rails and launching Basecamp. Hansson has recently faced backlash for promoting anti-immigration sentiments in his blog posts, which have been described as racially charged. This controversy has placed the Linux project in the crosshairs of critics and supporters alike. Several companies have previously faced scrutiny for their association with Omarchy, including 1Password and Cloudflare. When asked about their involvement, Cloudflare's CEO, Matthew Prince, stated that it was not his responsibility to monitor the political beliefs of individuals associated with projects they fund.
