Requirements
  • Current pharmacist license through the applicable state board, either the Ohio Board of Pharmacy or the West Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • A state criminal background check and, if applicable, a federal criminal background check.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds.

Responsibilities
  • Provide pharmaceutical care through direct patient care, operational, educational, and administrative activities.
  • Provide leadership and patient care in assigned areas, guide providers and patients on established care practices, and assure safe and effective drug use through clinical involvement.
  • Dispense and control prescription and non-prescription medicines.
  • Complete annual clinical competency evaluations.
  • Review prescriptions for accuracy and determine the required formulas and ingredients.
  • Direct pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Answer customer questions about drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage when counseling is accepted.
  • Detect, report, and help minimize or manage adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Assist nursing and other departments with admission and discharge planning and patient education about appropriate medication use.
  • Make decisions related to the provision of pharmaceutical services.
  • Engage patients and clients in customer service programs and program integrations offered by the pharmacy.
  • Identify problems related to drug-use control and offer ideas for resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with drug-distribution policies and procedures.
  • Maintain procedures for quality assurance, controlled-substance security, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Participate in orientation and education for pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and new department employees.
  • Maintain professional competence through conferences, continuing education, professional literature, and publication of clinical or practice-related experience or research.
  • Participate in departmental administrative, quality assurance, performance improvement, and research activities.
  • Supervise technicians in drug preparation and distribution duties.
  • Monitor third-party prescription systems, resolve rejected claims, and resubmit claims for payment.
  • Participate in medication-use evaluations and quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Enter patient, medication, cost, pharmacy-file, charge-system, and inventory data.
  • Instruct pharmacy technicians, interns, and other pharmacy personnel on applicable state and federal pharmacy law.
  • Participate in planning and implementing pharmacy changes, staff meetings, and projects to improve productivity.
Desired Qualifications
  • PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Medication Therapy Management Certification through the American Pharmacists Association.
  • Immunization Certification through the American Pharmacists Association.
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist certification through the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 60 days of hire.
