Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related technical field is required.
  • At least two years of work experience supporting technically oriented projects in community revitalization and economic development is required, including experience with brownfields site redevelopment or related infill development.
  • Willingness to travel as needed is required.
  • Knowledge of planning and policy trends related to land use planning, community and economic development, multimodal transportation, real estate, climate change and adaptation strategies, and affordable housing is required.
  • The candidate must be able to synthesize demographic, economic, market, and workforce data to draw actionable conclusions.
  • Knowledge of community engagement techniques and public speaking experience are required.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis using Excel, R, or other software is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Support the development of small area plans, downtown revitalization policies and strategies, site reuse strategies, and site plans for reuse scenarios including mixed-use, transportation, economic development, housing, open space, public realm improvements, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, and infill development.
  • Perform research, data collection, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis for redevelopment projects.
  • Analyze and synthesize demographic, real estate, and consumer spending data and prepare graphs, charts, tables, and other data visualizations.
  • Support the development of client work products, including reports, community engagement materials, conceptual designs, market analyses, best practices, presentations, and fact sheets.
  • Support stakeholder outreach and engagement activities, including in-person and virtual community engagement through charrettes, workshops, and meetings, along with related outreach and communication materials.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of spatial analytics using ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of drafting and 3-D modeling software such as CAD, Rhino, and SketchUp is preferred.
  • Knowledge of rendering software such as Lumion or Enscape is preferred.
  • Familiarity with general building code, zoning codes, ADA Standards for Accessible Design, and other related standards is preferred.
  • Experience with multifamily housing, mixed-use, and community-oriented uses and programming is preferred.
  • Experience with adaptive reuse, landscape design, and public realm design is preferred.
  • AICP certification is desired but not required.
