Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • A Professional Engineer license in New York, or the ability to obtain professional registration within 6 months of hire, is required.
  • Four to eight years of geotechnical experience with an emphasis in subsurface exploration and/or the design and development of geotechnical deliverables, including reports, drawings, and specifications, is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment is required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills are required.
  • Strong leadership ability and personal initiative are required.
  • Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills are required.
  • The candidate must be able to work outdoors in all seasons.
  • The candidate must be able to traverse and carry equipment across rugged terrain.
  • A current driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead geotechnical analysis and design efforts for projects and facilities, including shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, tieback anchors, soil nails, and concrete and earth dam slope stability and seepage studies.
  • Prepare written reports and documentation, geotechnical correspondence, design and construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Plan or assist in planning subsurface explorations and laboratory testing investigations.
  • Execute subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspection, site reconnaissance, and other data collection.
  • Assist in preparing geotechnical and cost proposals.
  • Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Experience managing small work groups and project tasks.
  • Experience with design-build delivery projects.
  • Experience with greater New York City area agencies such as MTA, NYCT, LIRR, MNR, PANYNJ, and NYSDOT.
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as APILE, LPILE, SHAFT, SLIDE, GeoStudio, DeepEx, Plaxis, and gINT.
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
