- An associate degree in Health Information Management or another related healthcare field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Registered Health Information Technician credential or Certification in Healthcare Compliance is required.
- At least three years of experience in health information management is required.
- Experience in health care compliance is strongly suggested.
- The candidate must be able to work with all disciplines and areas of the healthcare field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software rapidly are required.
- Prior experience with electronic medical record systems is required.
- Attention to detail and accurate input skills are required.
- Strong organizational, analytical, written communication, verbal communication, and time-management skills are required, with the ability to prioritize work.
- Audit electronic medical record documentation and data for accuracy, integrity, completeness, and compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Prepare continually for audits from the Department of Health and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, monitor requirements, share findings with the Health Information Director, and assist with corrective action planning.
- Audit internal processes, electronic medical record documentation, and other data; identify, investigate, and report compliance issues, irregularities, and violations to the Health Information Director.
- Assist with implementing and maintaining the PACE CNY compliance program, including reviewing the program and supporting relevant staff training as requested by the Health Information Director.
- Conduct functional and process audits, identify deficiencies and potential corrective actions, and advise management.
- Compile and distribute monthly census and program reports.
- Ensure medical information is shared with and received from skilled nursing facilities, adult housing, and other entities as required by state and federal regulations.
- Complete routine health-information disclosures to participants, family members, and other caregivers in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Assist with ongoing employee training related to privacy; monitor the program and staff for potential confidentiality breaches; advise the Health Information Director of concerns; and assist with corrective action planning.
- Perform departmental quality-assurance functions required for regulatory and program compliance, including auditing electronic medical record record maintenance, release of health information, ancillary quality assurance, discharge summaries, Part A days, and follow-up of specialists' reports; summarize findings and assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring plans of correction.
- A combination of outpatient and inpatient experience is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in a managed-care environment are highly desirable.
