Requirements
  • A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school or a J.D./LL.B. from an accredited Canadian law school.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. state or Canadian province or territory.
  • A minimum of three years of law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex renewable energy project documents, including power purchase agreements, financial hedging agreements such as virtual power purchase agreements, tax credit transfers, interconnection agreements, Independent System Operator/Regional Transmission Organization tariffs, operations and maintenance agreements, and asset management agreements for solar, wind, and battery storage.
  • Direct experience handling mergers and acquisitions transactions, including purchase and sale agreements, membership interest purchase and sale agreements, asset purchase agreements, and equity contribution and contribution agreements; joint venture structures including limited liability company agreements and shareholders' agreements; and project financing and security agreements.
  • Demonstrated oversight of outside litigation counsel and adversarial proceedings.
  • Advanced drafting and negotiation skills across major transactional agreements and routine corporate contracts, including master services agreements, consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and engagement letters.
  • Ability to manage high-volume, complex assignments with fine detail under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Use of standard office technology, including phones and enterprise software such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer screen, typing, reading, and moving through an office environment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead negotiation, drafting, and critical review of commercial contracts, merger and acquisition agreements (including cash equity sales and project purchases and sales, joint ventures, and partnerships), project debt finance documents, offtake agreements, and interconnection and transmission-related documents.
  • Support general project development and construction activities, including permitting and strategic planning.
  • Provide counsel and advice to cross-functional stakeholders to set the company's legal strategy on specific transactions and other corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters.
  • Support internal clients and other legal team members with due diligence for transactions related to project debt financing, project equity financing, purchase and sale agreements, build-transfer agreements, and design-build-sell agreements.
  • Support mergers and acquisition activity and financial transactions, and provide legal support for compliance initiatives.
  • Manage in-house counsel, support staff, and/or outside legal corporate counsel engaged to represent the Company when necessary.
  • Lead training programs related to company policies for North America employees and maintain training programs that promote compliance and best practices.
  • Recommend improvements to legal department processes to increase efficiency and mitigate legal risks.
  • Lead, assist, and support others in the legal department as needed while contributing to federal and state regulatory strategy and compliance and developing state-specific regulatory guidance.
  • Lead negotiations, drafting, and critical review of construction contracts, contracts involving the sale or purchase of renewable energy generation and related equipment, and real property documents.
  • Deliver legal advice to commercial counterparts on corporate and project contracts, legal entity maintenance, company, project and transaction structuring, litigation risks, and employee matters.
  • Ensure company compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards within scope of responsibility.
  • Contribute occasionally to the Legal department budget and financial planning.
  • Travel periodically for vendor visits, corporate meetings, and industry conferences.

KKR makes largest ever clean energy investment with $4.2B EDF purchase. By Alex Kimani - Jul 01, 2026, 12:30 PM CDT Global investment firm KKR has agreed to acquire EDF Power Solutions North America in a landmark $4.2-billion deal, marking the largest single renewable energy investment in the company's history. The purchase gives KKR immediate control of one of North America's largest clean power portfolios, adding more than 5.6 gigawatts of operating wind, solar, and battery storage assets as investors race to secure electricity generation for AI data centers and other fast-growing sources of power demand. The acquisition instantly makes KKR one of the largest owners of renewable generating assets in North America. EDF Power Solutions has developed more than 26 GW of wind, solar, and battery storage projects over nearly 40 years and operates one of the continent's largest clean energy portfolios. KKR will finance the transaction through its global infrastructure strategy. The acquisition allows the firm to capitalize on the AI boom's insatiable power demand. To date, KKR has deployed more than $26 billion globally in renewable energy and transition strategies. On its part, the divestment aligns with EDF's portfolio rotation strategy. The French giant will use the freed-up cash to maintain its 57 domestic nuclear reactors and fund six new nuclear units in Europe. KKR has lately been on a renewable energy investment spree: KKR and South Korea's SK Inc. have signed definitive agreements to launch South Korea's largest integrated renewable energy platform, valued at KRW 2 trillion (~$1.3 billion). The platform begins operations with approximately 1.7 gigawatts (GW) of existing clean-energy assets, with plans to scale total power capacity to 10 GW. The platform brings together fragmented renewable operations previously spread across multiple SK affiliates, spanning solar, onshore and offshore wind, fuel cells and energy storage systems (ESS). EDF Power Solutions and Partners sign agreements to develop 2 GW Jabal Abyad Energy Storage Project and 1 GW Digital Infrastructure Platform in Oman. EDF Power Solutions has signed a series of strategic agreements in the Sultanate of Oman to advance large-scale energy storage and digital infrastructure projects, reinforcing cooperation between Oman and France in support of the Sultanate's energy transition and economic diversification objectives. The agreements were signed in the presence of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said and French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. The signing ceremony was attended by Béatrice Buffon, Chief Executive Officer of EDF Power Solutions, Anwar bin Hilal bin Hamdoun Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and Ahmed Al Abri, Chief Executive Officer of Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP). 2 GW Jabal Abyad Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project. The project will be developed through a partnership comprising EDF Power Solutions, Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC), TAKHZEEN Oman, and Green Universe Enterprise (GUE), in coordination with Oman's Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR). Located near the Wadi Dayqah Dam, the project will provide long-duration energy storage capacity designed to strengthen grid reliability, improve system flexibility, and facilitate the integration of increasing volumes of renewable energy into Oman's power network. The facility is expected to play a critical role in supporting the country's clean energy ambitions by enabling more efficient utilization of renewable power generation while enhancing overall grid stability.
