Requirements
  • Experience working with elders or people with disabilities.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and a good driving record or proven record of vehicle safety.
  • Ability to safely push, pull, load, and unload participants who require wheelchairs.
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team and communicate effectively.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and enroll in a drug and alcohol testing consortium for random testing.
  • Complete and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Successfully complete a Massachusetts State CORI check, CPS check, company-paid pre-employment physical, and drug testing.
  • Be available for a Monday-through-Friday split-shift schedule with routes typically lasting 3 to 4 hours within the 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM service window.
Responsibilities
  • Transport program participants according to established safety rules and Department of Transportation road regulations.
  • Ensure all required safety equipment is present, secured, and fully stocked before each route.
  • Assist participants with entering and exiting the vehicle and escort them to and from their residence or destination using appropriate safety techniques and equipment, including gait belts when required.
  • Secure walkers, canes, and wheelchairs safely within the vehicle.
  • Ensure all passengers have secured seatbelts and wheelchair restraints at all times.
  • Complete daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspection sheets.
  • Follow vehicle maintenance protocols and inform the Assistant Transportation Coordinator or Transportation Coordinator of service needs.
  • Maintain a daily transportation log containing drop-off and pick-up times and participant attendance.
  • Keep the exterior and interior of the vehicle clean and free of potentially hazardous materials.
  • Report all accidents, whether major or minor, to the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Drive participants on outings at various Adult Day Health Programs.
  • Submit weekly trip reports containing mileage and gas receipts.
