iHeartMedia and Butler/Till bring ai-powered media buying for streaming audio; broadcast radio to be available soon. iHeartMedia announces it partnered with media agency Butler/Till to complete "the advertising industry's first agentic streaming audio media campaign... marking the first time premium streaming audio inventory has been purchased through an AI-powered agentic media buying workflow." The press release explains: "Unlike traditional automation, which follows predefined workflows, agentic media buying enables AI agents to evaluate campaign objectives, identify opportunities and execute approved media buying decisions dynamically within clearly defined business rules. Human expertise remains central to strategy, governance and oversight, while AI improves the speed, efficiency and adaptability of campaign execution." The companies say they plan to implement the technology for broadcast audio in the near future.
Butler/Till has completed what it calls the advertising industry's first agentic streaming audio media campaign with iHeartMedia. The campaign, launched for a US agricultural solutions company, used an AI-powered agentic workflow to purchase premium streaming audio inventory. iHeartMedia, the largest audio company in the US, plans to extend agentic media buying to broadcast radio later this year. The company recently launched AudioGraph, a capability that brings digital-like targeting and measurement to broadcast radio at scale. Until now, agentic buying has been largely limited to channels accessible through programmatic technology. The campaign operated within marketer-defined objectives and strategic human oversight, representing what the companies describe as a significant step toward a more intelligent and efficient media marketplace.
iHeartMedia's Pollack adds Mediabase President title. August 17, 2026 iHeartMedia is putting Alissa Pollack in charge of both its chart data business and major label marketing. Pollack has been promoted to President of Mediabase at RCS Worldwide, while continuing to serve as President of Global Music Marketing. As President, Pollack will oversee Mediabase's strategic direction, global expansion, product innovation, and commercial growth, with the company's stated goal to expand the platform beyond its airplay charts into a broader music intelligence platform serving the global music industry. Pollack began her radio career as a producer at New York's Z100 before moving through the iHeartMedia ranks, including a stint as Program Director of KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. She has now spent 24 years with the company. In 2016, iHeartMedia named Pollack Executive Vice President of Global Music Marketing. She has also overseen Mediabase and its sister platforms, including M-Score, RateTheMusic, and BuzzAngle Music. Her work has centered on data and analytics, multi-platform marketing, and artist-brand partnerships. Pollack serves on the boards of MusiCares and Musicians on Call and chairs the Music and Entertainment Committee for City of Hope. She created the Taste of Hope fundraiser and the Jason Pollack Bedside Performance Program. RCS Worldwide President and CEO Susan Larkin said, "Alissa has spent her career at the intersection of music, data, and relationships, which is exactly where Mediabase lives. This promotion is a recognition of everything she has already built and a reflection of our confidence in where she will take Mediabase next. As she steps into this role, she will have my full support as she leads Mediabase forward." Pollack said, "I'm honored to lead Mediabase at such an exciting moment in its evolution while continuing the work I love at iHeartMedia. These roles are incredibly complementary because they share the same purpose: helping the industry make smarter decisions through meaningful insights. Mediabase has earned its reputation as the gold standard in music data, and I see an incredible opportunity to build on that legacy by expanding our global reach and delivering intelligence that helps our partners not just discover what's happening now but shapes what happens next." iHeartMedia marks fifth anniversary of Cool Zone Media and launches new podcast. iHeartMedia announced on Aug. 17 the fifth anniversary of Cool Zone Media, a podcast network led by journalist Robert Evans and executive producer Sophie Lichterman. Since its launch in August 2021, Cool Zone Media has produced 27 podcasts with more than 4,450 episodes and over 750 million downloads. The network highlights investigative journalism and storytelling, covering political, historical, and cultural issues. Its journalists have reported from major protests and crises around the world such as the Stop Cop City protests in Atlanta, the U.S.-Mexico border, the Darién Gap, Myanmar, and Syria. The network has received multiple Webby Awards for excellence in podcast journalism. Robert Evans said, "In five years we've built a network that reaches millions of people every month with stories that help them understand the world we've all been thrust into." Lichterman said she is "deeply proud of our exceptional Cool Zone Media team and our unwavering commitment to reporting thoughtful, meaningful stories from around the world." Cool Zone Media's programming includes flagship series like "Behind the Bastards," "It Could Happen Here," and "Hood Politics." Other original series include "Weird Little Guys," "Better Offline," "Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff," and "Cool Zone Media Book Club." Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts Network, said: "I'm not sure I've seen a podcast network with the level of loyalty that Cool Zone has built over the past five years... It's a testament to the incredible time and dedication Robert, Sophie and the whole Cool Zone team have put into every show in their roster." As part of its expansion plans, iHeartMedia introduced a new weekly podcast titled "Natural Causes" hosted by Dr. James Stout. The show will focus on topics such as public lands, agriculture, colonialism, Land Back movements advocating for Indigenous stewardship of land rights - and related environmental issues - through firsthand journalism. Stout said, "I'm beyond excited to share stories that are far too often overlooked or engaged with through tropes and stereotypes... We are kicking off the show with a look into agricultural labor rights and food safety and how we can learn from and embrace Indigenous fire knowledge." Additional upcoming shows include "Executive Disorder: White House Weekly," which will cover immigration policy among other topics; "Knowledge Fight Country," focusing on right-wing media; as well as a new weekly history-themed series about Warhammer 40,000.
iHeartMedia's second-quarter revenue of $977.2 million slightly exceeded Wall Street's expectations of $968.9 million, marking 4.7% year-on-year growth. The company's digital audio segment drove performance, with podcasting revenues up over 20% year-on-year. CEO Bob Pittman highlighted the company's broadcast radio reach as instrumental in building podcast audiences. He emphasised expansion of video podcast partnerships, including recent deals with Hulu and Netflix. During the earnings call, analysts focused on political advertising outlook, video podcasting strategy, and the path to the company's $800 million full-year adjusted EBITDA target. CFO Richard Bressler suggested the midterm cycle could rival presidential year political advertising levels. The company's market capitalisation stands at $489.7 million. Management maintained full-year EBITDA guidance of $800 million at the midpoint, in line with analyst expectations.
