IIFL Home Finance secures $150 mn JICA loan.

IIFL Home Finance secures $150 mn JICA loan. IIFL Home Finance secures a $150 million JICA loan to expand affordable housing finance for low-income women across urban and peri-urban India IIFL Home Finance has signed a USD 150 million loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to expand affordable housing finance for women from economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG) across India. The financing will be on-lent through IIFL Home Finance to support home acquisitions by eligible women borrowers in urban and peri-urban markets. The project will be implemented through a co-financing arrangement involving the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and private financial institutions, including MUFG Bank. Focus On Women Borrowers The JICA funding is aimed at widening access to formal housing finance among low-income women and supporting homeownership, financial inclusion and economic empowerment. According to JICA, women account for around 30 per cent of housing finance users in India, while about 95 per cent of the country's existing urban housing shortage is concentrated among low-income households. India faces an urban housing shortage of more than 10 million units, with demand projected to increase by another 22 million units by 2030. The project is aligned with the government's Housing for All initiative and is intended to channel long-term funding towards home acquisition by low-income women. Japan Expertise To Support Housing Finance Alongside the financing, JICA, in collaboration with the Japan Housing Finance Agency and other partners, plans to provide training to Indian housing finance regulators and IIFL Home Finance employees. The training will cover affordable housing, housing policy and decarbonised building practices, with the objective of sharing Japanese experience and strengthening institutional capacity in India's housing finance sector. The agreement adds to IIFL Home Finance's recent access to institutional funding for affordable housing. In February, the company signed a USD 300 million loan arrangement involving ADB and other financial institutions to support affordable housing finance, particularly for women and lower-income borrowers. IIFL Home Finance said it had served over 4.89 lakh customers as of March 31, 2026, including 4.62 lakh women borrowers, and operates 315 branches across 18 states and two Union Territories.
