Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Athletic Training is required.
  • A Pennsylvania license in Athletic Training is required.
  • Certification through the Board of Certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide athletic training services to assigned Geisinger-contracted organizations.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and staffing of community events and related programming.
  • Cover other contracted schools or accept changed assignments as needed.
  • Establish and maintain community relations and provide educational programs for coaches, athletes, and community members.
  • Establish and update contracted-organization policy and procedure manuals and conduct annual reviews.
  • Perform initial patient assessments and screenings and develop and distribute ongoing patient education information.
  • Engage in prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of student-athlete injuries.
  • Use therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation equipment, first-aid supplies, and athletic-training supplies when warranted.
  • Conduct taping, wrapping, bracing, and other pre-event preparation.
  • Plan, implement, document, and communicate care, and refer athletes to appropriate medical providers for follow-up and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Act as a physician extender to the supervising physician within the Musculoskeletal Institute.
  • Perform medical assistant duties for clinic patients in addition to population-specific athletic training duties.
