  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • An associate degree or technical training is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in landfill operations, waste management, construction, or heavy equipment operations is required.
  • One to three years of supervisory or leadership experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of landfill operations, safety regulations, and environmental compliance is required.
  • Experience operating or overseeing heavy equipment, including dozers, compactors, and loaders, is required.
  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods; navigate uneven and vegetated terrain; perform sampling activities such as hand auguring for soil sample collection; handle tools or controls; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; and communicate by talking and hearing.
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds and carry a self-contained breathing apparatus if needed.
  • The employee must have close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily landfill operations, including waste placement, compaction, cover application, and site maintenance.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of heavy equipment, including dozers, compactors, and loaders.
  • Coordinate incoming waste loads and traffic flow to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Monitor landfill capacity, cell development, and daily cover requirements.
  • Enforce Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and state and local environmental regulations.
  • Conduct daily site safety checks and hazard assessments.
  • Ensure employees follow personal protective equipment requirements and safety protocols.
  • Respond to and document incidents, spills, and safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with permits, reporting requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Directly supervise landfill operators, equipment operators, and laborers.
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure productivity expectations are met.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Support disciplinary actions and performance-improvement processes as needed.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, including tonnage, equipment usage, and daily logs.
  • Complete required regulatory and internal reports accurately and on time.
  • Communicate operational updates to management.
  • Communicate professionally with drivers, contractors, and vendors on-site.
  • Resolve operational or service issues as they arise.
  • Support scalehouse operations when needed.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Report equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Perform and oversee minor equipment maintenance, including oil changes and routine servicing.
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed to support operations during staffing shortages.
  • Provide supervisory support at other facilities when operational needs require coverage.
  • Work a full-time 10-days-on, 4-days-off schedule with 12-hour shifts.
