IMPEL ushers in new era of 'copyright networking' with launch of Becon.

IMPEL ushers in new era of 'copyright networking' with launch of Becon. BMAT-powered copyright data management system sets a new standard for data sharing between rightsholders, licensors, administrators and licensees. IMPEL has launched a new, first of its kind copyright data management system that will provide a single, authoritative point of copyright data delivery and networking to multiple partners for the organisation's member publishers. Named Becon, and powered by BMAT, the system moves beyond simple data transportation and ushers in a new era of data networking for the independent music publishing sector. Becon sets a new standard of universal connectivity between different networks, platforms and rightsholders. The system is designed to adapt to multiple different data exchange environments and interact with any end user. This is the first example of a bespoke copyright data management system specifically tailored to the independent sector, providing an optimised approach to content clearance and matching across licensing and processing partners, as well as other rightsholders. The result is greater visibility, traceability and control of catalogue administration, with increasing granularity and flexibility over the digital licences that IMPEL members choose to grant. Becon will also provide IMPEL members with data enrichment tools, as well as allowing them to filter and aggregate their collective copyright data in a way that hasn't been possible before. It also provides IMPEL with greater fungibility of its members' collective data, which is a valuable asset for licensing. All this means that independent music publishers will be able to capitalise on commercial licensing opportunities with greater speed and efficiency no matter the partner or platform both now and in the future as the music industry landscape evolves. IMPEL CEO Sarah Williams said: "The future of digital licensing is going to be built on enhanced data networking, which is why we need to move beyond mere data transportation to a dynamic data-networked system that is interoperable with our licensing and operational partners, both now and in the future. Not only are we concerned with getting the most for our members from streaming, we need to provide new licensing opportunities within AI and other business areas where collective licensing makes sense. The needs of the independent sector are very diverse, so we need to respond accordingly with an a la carte approach. To achieve this, we also need to be a great partner to our licensees, making it easier for them to access the independent sector's incredible repertoire. It's that win-win sweet spot that we're aiming for." IMPEL COO Michael Hatjoullis said: "Record of the Day chose BMAT as its partner not only because they combine great tech with a deep understanding of copyright data, and the heavy lifting that it has to do within the administrative ecosystem, but because Record of the Day recognised that Record of the Day share an ethos. Record of the Day want to create systems that allow full integration and participation from all rightsholders. For independent publishers, shared and networked infrastructure is going to be a gamechanger, especially in a rapidly changing environment. Iñigo Ugarteburu, CEO of BMAT said: "Partnering with IMPEL to power Becon perfectly aligns with our core mission: building seamless, cooperative infrastructure and solutions for the music industry. Moving beyond simple data transport to true copyright networking helps connect rightsholders and administrators with digital platforms with greater agility. By providing this collective, transparent ecosystem, we are empowering IMPEL's members to capitalise on complex licensing opportunities. Ultimately, this technological leap drives the efficiency required to ensure creators are accurately compensated in a rapidly evolving digital landscape."

BMAT Expands Collaboration with MCT Thailand to Scale VOD Royalty Processing in APAC

BMAT expands collaboration with MCT Thailand to scale VOD royalty processing in APAC. BMAT, a global leader in music technology and rights and royalties data, and MCT, Thailand's collective management organisation for composers, authors, and music publishers, are expanding their collaboration to enhance structured Video on Demand (VOD) processing across both historical and current data. The extension strengthens the administration of audiovisual royalties in Thailand and across the wider APAC region. As VOD consumption grows across Asia-Pacific, the scale and complexity of music usage increases accordingly. The extended collaboration introduces structured processing, supported by BMAT's database of more than 10 million audiovisual works and 1.5 million cue sheets, powering real-time data and automated workflows. Together, these contribute to more consistent and scalable music rights processing and royalty distribution across VOD services in the region. Under the expanded agreement, MCT will process retrospective and current VOD usage through BMAT's Music Operating System. For MCT's members, this means VOD usage will be managed within BMAT's infrastructure already trusted by more than 140 Collective Management Organisations and Performance Rights Organisations across 250 territories worldwide. It increases both the number and accuracy of rightsholders receiving royalties. It also enables faster and more efficient distributions while reinforcing the transparency and consistency of reporting delivered across the APAC ecosystem. This builds on a collaboration that began in 2020, when MCT adopted BMAT's DSP processing and BackOffice services. The extended agreement marks a natural progression from digital audio workflows into full audiovisual royalty administration. It positions MCT at the forefront of structured VOD processing in the region. "We've been working alongside MCT since 2020, and expanding into full VOD processing reflects the natural evolution of that collaboration. As audiovisual consumption grows across APAC, it's encouraging to see societies investing in structured, scalable systems that support creators with clarity and consistency. We're proud to support MCT as it strengthens its VOD framework, ensuring its members can rely on reporting that is accurate, transparent and aligned with international standards," said Iñigo Ugarteburu, CEO of BMAT. BMAT's Music Operating System processes €1.5 billion in digital royalties each year, including their VOD Processing solution, which operates across 12 leading SVOD platforms in 17 territories. The platform handles multi-source usage datasets and aligns them with authoritative rights and repertoire information. By applying industry-standard identifiers such as ISWC and ISRC, it generates validated reporting outputs for societies and rightsholders worldwide, providing established audiovisual processing infrastructure at international scale. Together, MCT and BMAT are contributing to a more scalable, transparent and internationally aligned standard for VOD royalty processing in APAC. Onboarding is now underway, and operational milestones will be communicated in due course.
