Requirements
  • An Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the ASCP Board of Certification or an equivalent organization is required; candidates who are not certified must obtain certification within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, and working in confined or cramped spaces.
  • Ability to perform kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, gross motor activities, firm grasping, fine manipulation, overhead reaching, repetitive hand and upper-body motions, and reaching in all directions.
  • Ability to use both legs and lower extremities for balance and coordination.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted, lift or lower 50-pound objects unassisted, lift 25 pounds from 36 inches to overhead, and exert up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Ability to maintain corrected 20/40 vision, recognize objects at close and far distances, discriminate between colors, determine depth perception, and maintain good peripheral vision.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction and tactile sensory functions.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in a latex-safe environment.
  • Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function in selected positions.
  • Ability to be physically qualified for respirator use initially and as required in selected positions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform generalist duties across all areas of the laboratory.
  • Perform diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease states.
  • Follow standardized procedures and help prepare samples for testing.
  • Analyze test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
