Requirements
  • Some high school coursework is required; completion of high school is an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience or customer service experience is required.
  • Money-handling experience is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration is required.
  • Experience with general office equipment and strong skills and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a current driver's abstract satisfactory to The Salvation Army are required.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office setting, with attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift or move 9 to 12 kg (20 to 25 lb).
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to liaise and work with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Strong listening and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry, and provide an original copy of the background check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding of and support for The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada and its implications for the role.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as hours may increase according to operational requirements.
  • Standing for long periods and exposure to cold weather may be required.
  • Local travel is associated with this position.
Responsibilities
  • Attend a day of training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Support delivery of kettles to locations before volunteers arrive at the start of the campaign.
  • Ensure all kettle donations are delivered to a secure location at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient volunteers and remind them of proper kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support, and assign volunteers throughout the campaign as required.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Respond to questions from potential donors about The Salvation Army's ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee campaign operations, including scheduling staff and volunteers.
  • Participate in recruiting kettle volunteers.
  • Orient kettle volunteers and manage their performance.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules and respond to emergency absences.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate daily delivery and pickup of kettles, ensure donation security, and deliver or pick up kettles as needed.
  • Host at a kettle as required and ensure coverage for breaks.
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature and other materials.
  • Organize retrieval of all equipment and supplies from kettle locations after the campaign.
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are kept secure.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
