Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent technical training and demonstrated relevant experience.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on design, requirements development, and implementation experience involving engineering systems, hardware or software engineering, and/or data information systems.
  • At least 1 year of experience with locomotive electronic braking systems.
  • Experience with locomotive control systems.
  • Experience with communication systems.
  • Experience in computer networking.
  • Experience in software deployment and configuration management.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Lead future concepts and design enhancements for Transport Intelligence products using sound engineering principles and business standards, practices, procedures, and product or program requirements.
  • Support development of the research and development strategy for the product.
  • Serve as a primary customer contact for the Transport Intelligence product line by translating customer needs and requirements, resolving specification issues, handling technical correspondence, providing periodic updates, ensuring customer satisfaction, and negotiating or coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide guidance to internal engineering teams on design tradeoff considerations during the development lifecycle.
  • Act as a technical leader for projects across global cross-functional teams, including Product and Program Management, Software Center of Excellence, Electrical Integration, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering, to assure success throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Participate in the development of project proposals.
  • Work with Wabtec's scientific community and railroad subject matter experts to develop freight automation solutions, evaluate them in field trials, and productize them for use in a railroad revenue environment.
  • Lead and participate in technical and program reviews.
  • Maintain broad awareness of technical trends to ensure technical quality, timely completion of work, and responsiveness to customer and program needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Global Supply Chain Organization across locations to support procurement of parts from an engineering requirements perspective.
  • Provide technical input to customer-facing documentation, including product descriptions, operational manuals, installation instructions, troubleshooting guides, and product marketing material.
  • Interface with the Global Locomotive Operations group to ensure factory-built locomotives are manufactured successfully and delivered to customers in a timely manner.
  • Provide design input to external teams for locomotive integration of Digital Solutions products.
  • Manage engineering team program execution to deliver on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Highlight dependencies to the Project Management Organization and escalate engineering-impeding items.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Locomotive systems design experience.
  • Railroad industry experience.
  • Prior system design experience with large-scale wireless communication-based projects.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

  • Knowledge of Association of American Railroads and CENELEC standards for the rail industry.
  • Desire to participate in hiring and onboarding future team members.

The stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 35.1, well above the S&P 500's 24.3. Price-to-sales and price-to-operating-cash-flow multiples also exceed market averages at 3.7 and 22.3 respectively. Revenue has grown 10.2% annually over three years, outpacing the S&P 500's 5.9%. The 12-month backlog rose 11% whilst the multi-year backlog jumped 42%. Debt stands at a manageable 14.7% of market value. Operating cash flow reached approximately $2 billion over the past twelve months.

Forsee Power and Wabtec team up to electrify locomotives with advanced battery tech

Forsee Power, a smart battery systems specialist, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wabtec to integrate advanced battery systems into battery-electric locomotive platforms. Wabtec, which unveiled the world's first battery-electric freight locomotive in 2021, will collaborate with Forsee Power to enhance performance and reliability whilst optimising costs. Forsee Power's PULSE PLUS RAIL battery system, built on Toshiba's latest-generation LTO cells, offers up to 20 years lifespan, high-power output and voltage range up to 1,500 VDC. The system features advanced liquid thermal management for extreme temperatures and meets the highest safety standards. The partnership leverages Forsee Power's industrial presence in Ohio for Buy America compliance.
