Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Handle case notes, process correspondence, and maintain client case files.
  • File new statements, account forms, and other insurance- and investment-related materials.
  • Maintain the financial representative’s calendar and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls as appropriate.
  • Process client and prospect reservations for marketing events such as seminars and assist with seminar materials and event mailings.
  • Maintain supplies of current insurance- and investment-related marketing materials.
  • Input data, print proposals, and gather information at the direction of the financial representative for client and prospect meetings.
  • Contact clients to schedule follow-up meetings with the representative.
  • Contact clients to confirm receipt of forms or request completed forms and maintain current client information.
  • Monitor the Daily Status Report and expedite additional underwriting requirements.
  • Communicate with the home office, NMIS, and fund families to supply or obtain information.
  • Prepare and print letters of instruction for client signature.
  • Prepare policies for delivery.
  • Maintain check logs.
  • Send client birthday cards and schedule birthday or age-change appointments for the representative.
  • Generate lead letters and implement marketing programs.
  • Participate, with the employing financial representative’s support, in sales-cycle activities for non-securities products.
  • Develop and execute cross-selling plans for non-securities products.
  • Contact clients, prospects, and centers of influence to schedule appointments and obtain referrals for non-securities products.
  • Meet with clients to complete non-securities insurance applications.
  • Initiate and perform sales of non-variable Additional Purchase Benefit and term conversions.
  • Participate in conservation of existing non-securities business.
  • Review insurance applications, conversions, and policy changes for completeness and accuracy.
  • Arrange medical, paramedical, and other exams necessary for underwriting.
  • Provide current status and account values for non-securities-related accounts.
  • Contact and advise clients regarding late payments and other non-securities sales and service issues.
  • Consult with clients about the impact of changes to non-securities-related products.
  • Process incoming non-securities-related insurance service requests, including address changes, bank-information changes, loan requests, and ISA service inquiries.
  • Gather information for registered-representative meetings with clients and prospects and enter data into planning software for non-asset-allocation components.
  • Prepare account summaries for variable and securities owners.
  • Print and distribute NMIS-related forms to existing clients.
  • Review variable insurance, annuity, and investment applications, conversions, and policy changes for completeness and accuracy and return incomplete items to the registered representative.
  • Review NMIS forms for completeness and return incomplete items to the registered representative.
  • Monitor Items for Attention and bring action items to the registered representative’s attention.
  • Complete order tickets and new-account forms based on information obtained by the registered representative.
  • Identify the need for switch letters and discuss it with the registered representative.
  • At the registered representative’s direction, initiate fund and NMIS transfers, exchanges, and redemption requests.
  • Receive and forward checks and related paperwork to network and home-office investment operations areas.
  • Work with the network office, NMIS, and fund families to resolve client account issues.
  • Provide account values and performance information to clients at the direction of the registered representative.

Gen Z and millennials delay life milestones as 72% postpone major goals due to financial pressures

Financial pressures are forcing many young Americans to postpone or abandon major life milestones, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2026 Planning & Progress Study. Nearly three in four Gen Z adults and more than half of Millennials have delayed at least one significant milestone due to financial challenges. The impact is particularly acute for homeownership and family planning. Thirty-one per cent of Gen Z respondents have postponed buying a house, whilst 24% have delayed having children. Among those who have become parents, over 70% spend as much or more on their children monthly as they do on housing. Artificial intelligence is adding to concerns, with 46% of Gen Z and 32% of Millennials pessimistic about its impact on their careers. Despite these challenges, younger generations are responding proactively. Gen Z and Millennials started saving for retirement at ages 22 and 28 respectively, years earlier than previous generations, and seek professional financial guidance at higher rates.

Single Americans seeking partners who earn money expect an average income of $139,000 annually, with women's expectations ($172,000) significantly exceeding men's ($101,000). 53% of millennials not financially independent from parents, average age now 37

More than half of millennials (53%) are not fully financially independent from their parents, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2025 Consumer Sentiment Survey. Americans now expect to achieve financial independence at age 37 on average. Record housing costs, student loan debt and gaps in financial preparedness are the primary obstacles. Among millennials, 43% lack a retirement account, 66% don't have an emergency fund, and 31% lack savings accounts altogether. Meanwhile, 74% of parents are considering or planning to provide financial support to help their children move out. The survey, conducted by The Harris Poll between 5 and 21 January 2026, included 4,375 US adults aged 18 or older. Northwestern Mutual's chief strategy officer called the findings "a massive wake-up call for America".
