About the company

Tilde Research provides full-stack interpretability tools for AI systems, including general interpreter models and control mechanisms to guide how features flow through inference pipelines. These tools help human experts collaborate with AI by aligning model decisions with human input and existing fine-tuning methods. The approach focuses on deployment-time control and orchestration, adding a layer of insight that sits between raw prompts and model outputs. The goal is safer, more understandable AI that can handle complex tasks within standard deployment workflows.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Tilde announced an $8M seed in July 2025, extending runway for research.
  • The 2024 Sieve results showed interpretability can directly improve downstream performance.
  • Open roles for ML Engineer, Researcher, and Kernel Engineer indicate active productization in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google can bundle interpretability features into their own platforms by 2026.
  • Tilde's single-digit headcount makes one failed model bet or hiring miss immediately damaging.
  • If customers prefer cheaper prompting tools, Tilde's control-product thesis loses its commercial edge.

What makes Tilde Research unique

  • Tilde Research pairs mechanistic interpretability with control products, not pure safety papers.
  • Its Sieve work used SAEs to improve Benchify code generation with 99.9% precision.
  • Khosla Ventures backed Tilde's $8M seed, signaling credibility among frontier AI investors.
