Requirements
  • A current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided, or a current multistate Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), is required.
  • A state criminal background check and, if applicable, a federal criminal background check are required for regulated areas.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Two years of experience as a registered nurse or five years of experience as a licensed practical nurse is required.
  • The role requires the strength and stamina to lift, move, stoop, reach, position and carry patients, materials and equipment weighing 35 pounds or more.
  • The role involves frequent exposure to blood and bodily fluids, possible exposure to harmful toxins, and regular exposure to communicable disease.
Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized care to specific patient populations to optimize care and experience.
  • Provide hands-on assistance according to department, patient and provider needs, including assisting with procedures, performing tests, preparing or administering patient medications, and obtaining specimens.
  • Act as the first contact for patients by providing triage and medical advice where applicable.
  • Coordinate the plan of care and liaise with providers, departments, other healthcare professionals and schedulers to coordinate testing, scheduling and referrals.
  • Monitor and manage appointments, testing and laboratory work necessary for the patient population.
  • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for the patient population.
  • Prepare educational materials for patients and educate and counsel patients about medical conditions, medications and treatments.
  • Provide specialized nursing assistance in research efforts when applicable.
  • Provide advice, education and consultation services to nursing staff caring for the same patient population.
  • Attend conferences or educational opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  • Travel as necessary for departments with multiple locations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Certification relevant to the specialized care provided is preferred.
