Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.
  • A passion for working with diverse populations and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
  • Lived experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) through the Missouri Credentialing Board. If you don’t have it yet, you’ll need to obtain it within 90 days of being hired.
  • Reliable transportation is a must.
  • Completion of all required orientation and training within the established timeline.
Responsibilities
  • Work with clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings to ensure their needs are met and they’re getting the best care possible, including sometimes working directly with parents or guardians to support the entire family unit.
  • Bring personal experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery to inspire hope and help clients reconnect with their treatment plans.
  • Assist clients with setting and reaching their personal goals, and tackle barriers that might be holding them back.
  • Be there for clients during tough moments, working to de-escalate crises and prevent future challenges.
  • Help clients tap into their strengths and build on them to move forward in their recovery journey.
  • Be quick on your feet in crisis situations, intervening when needed and ensuring clients get the support they need.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, help prevent hospitalizations, relapses, and other setbacks, and develop/refine individualized treatment plans.
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date clinical records and documentation in line with University Health standards, and submit within 24 hours; ensure Release of Information documents are handled per protocol.
  • Meet productivity targets as set by your supervisor.
  • Drive quality improvement in the department and ensure safe, inclusive care for everyone.
  • Tailor approach to meet the specific needs of each client based on age and developmental stage.
  • Present a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor with clients, families, and coworkers.
  • Stay current on all relevant laws, regulations, and standards and participate in training and compliance activities.
  • Maintain Certified Peer Specialist credential, completing recertification and continuing education hours as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in behavioral health, coaching, and providing support.
  • Active Missouri Certified Peer Specialist certification, or obtain CPS credential within 90 days of the hiring date. Certification must be kept current to maintain assignment to this position
