Zebra's AI-powered 3D sensors help EBI Electric cut lumber waste, save $750K annually

EBI Electric, a wood scanning solutions provider, is using Zebra Technologies' AltiZ 3D sensors to power its AI-enriched lumber scanning solution, Inspector T. The system delivers an eightfold improvement in measurement precision, helping lumber manufacturers reduce errors and waste. The Inspector T solution uses dual AltiZ sensors to capture complete cross-sections of wood planks, identifying knots, cracks and defects with AI-powered accuracy. This enables manufacturers to gain up to 5% more usable wood, resulting in nearly $750,000 in annual cost savings. The sensors operate reliably in dusty mill environments, replacing EBI Electric's 20-year-old linear scanners that frequently missed defects. The technology optimises cuts, reduces waste and improves inventory management for lumber manufacturers.
