Requirements
  • Hold a current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Have two years of registered nursing experience.
  • Demonstrate competencies from regularly serving as a charge nurse and/or precepting new staff or nursing students.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable.
  • Meet the physical requirements of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Have visual acuity within the normal range.
  • Have hearing within the normal range to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, and related patient-care sounds.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Use competent clinical practice and critical-thinking skills to deliver patient care efficiently.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adapt to stressful conditions, varying workloads, and changing work assignments.
  • Be flexible in response to changes in work volume, staffing, and schedules.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Deliver nursing care through the nursing process with authority, responsibility, and shift accountability.
  • Apply competent clinical knowledge and independent nursing judgment to care provided by self and delegated healthcare providers.
  • Assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific patient requirements.
  • Prioritize patient diagnoses, problems, issues, and mutual goals to meet patient and healthcare-team needs.
  • Serve as a resource for patient and family learning needs.
  • Coordinate with the interprofessional team to manage changing priorities.
  • Provide safe, quality care as an independent team member.
  • Mentor colleagues in acquiring clinical knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment.
  • Participate in developing and continuously improving systems that support patient-care planning.
  • Lead interprofessional teams in effective collaboration and consultation.
  • Design innovations to improve patient outcomes.
  • Assist nurses in developing research skills.
  • Participate in collaborative planning to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered healthcare.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, reviewing, and adhering to policies that promote patient health and safety.
  • Advocate for healthcare consumers' rights to inform decision-making and self-determination.
  • Demonstrate leadership within the community and healthcare arena.
  • Engage healthcare consumers and interprofessional team members in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Integrate global and environmental factors into the assessment process.
  • Identify resources and actions to address cultural situations appropriately.
  • Recognize personal bias.
  • Disseminate educational findings and experiences to colleagues.
  • Pursue higher education and training as part of ongoing professional development.
  • Identify appropriate resources for ethical dilemmas and advance ethical nursing practice.
  • Use lift equipment and other patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning as indicated by the patient's profile and applicable algorithms.
  • Work around biohazards and infectious diseases, with or near deceased individuals, with hands in water, and around electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
  • Work protracted or irregular hours.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
  • A specialty certification.
  • Participation in quality improvement and shared governance at the unit, organization, or system level, as applicable to the clinical advancement level.
  • A health-related Master's degree for nurses pursuing the applicable clinical advancement level.
