  • Six months of related experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant with certification specified by the Medical Board of California, or equivalent military experience; alternatively, completion of an emergency-department or urgent-care externship in an unlicensed assistive personnel externship, or completion of the first semester of clinical coursework in a nursing program.

  • Ability to implement community resources, pull charts from the file room, complete after-hours admission paperwork, apply splints according to physician orders, perform receptionist duties including cash handling and patient identification, and use proper body mechanics and lift techniques when transporting patients.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the physician or designee with examination and treatment of patients under direct supervision.
  • Provide competent patient care for patients of all ages, acuities, and conditions, including age-specific care and response to patients' and families' cultural needs.
  • Communicate with members of the healthcare team while following appropriate lines of authority.
  • Follow safety practices and policies, including infection control, workplace safety, and management of aggressive behaviors.
  • Use computers and telecommunications for documentation, tracking, and conveying information.
  • Document patient care and unit activities accurately, concisely, and on time.
  • Participate in emergency-department staff meetings, in-services, and performance-improvement activities.
  • Establish effective working relationships with healthcare-team members, patients, and families while respecting staff, cultural, and ethical rights.
  • Attend scheduled shifts and required staff development and assist with resolving staffing issues.
  • Room and undress patients at the direction of the registered nurse.
  • Obtain, record, and report vital signs, electrocardiograms, heights, weights, and patient inputs and outputs according to department policy.
  • Draw blood.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with procedures, including patient positioning and draping and preparation.
  • Apply monitoring devices; prepare patients for suturing; clean wounds; apply dressings, orthopedic devices, and splints; and fit crutches.
  • Assist patients with bathroom use and ambulation and transport patients as needed.
  • Assist the healthcare team during emergency situations, including resuscitation.
  • Assist with the discharge process under the direction of a physician or nurse.
  • Clean emergency-department gurneys and equipment.
  • Collect, bag, and tag patient belongings and complete the belongings checklist.
  • Provide post-mortem care.
  • Prepare requisitions for laboratory services, imaging reports, and medical records and perform basic Unit Assistant clerical duties.
  • Conduct pharmacy, laboratory, nutrition, and imaging pickups and deliveries, including specimen transport.
  • Inventory, order, unpack, and distribute supplies, forms, and linens; maintain cleanliness, stocking, and organization of patient-care areas, utility rooms, and storage rooms.
  • Clean and process instruments according to facility infection-control policy.
  • Perform quality-control checks of urine dipsticks when applicable.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including cash handling, customer service, greeting patients, completing paperwork, and identifying patients.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Dr Taejoon Ahn named CEO of Washington Permanente Medical Group, overseeing 1,200 clinicians

Washington Permanente Medical Group has appointed Taejoon Ahn, MD, MPH, as its new CEO and executive medical director, effective 30 September. Dr Ahn will lead the multispeciality medical group, which comprises over 1,200 clinicians caring for more than 550,000 Kaiser Permanente members across Washington state. Dr Ahn brings over 15 years of physician executive experience. He most recently served for 12 years as president of John Muir Medical Group. He succeeds Dorian Reid, MD, who served in an interim capacity since September 2025. WPMG is the independent, physician-owned medical group that provides care exclusively for Kaiser Permanente members in Washington. Dr Ahn will partner with regional president Cynthia Dold to continue delivering integrated care across the state.

Kaiser cuts 147 admin jobs across California offices

Kaiser Permanente is laying off 147 business and administrative employees across California in November. The cuts affect 16 locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and Alameda counties, with the largest reductions being 72 positions in San Diego and 20 in Pasadena. The Oakland-based non-profit said the layoffs do not include direct patient care staff and will not affect care quality. Kaiser stated it continually evaluates how it organises work to ensure high-quality care remains affordable and accessible. Affected employees will receive support to explore other opportunities within Kaiser, and where appropriate, severance packages and outplacement services. Kaiser employs approximately 180,000 people in California.

Posted: Sep 28, 2026 / 02:49 PM PDT Updated: Sep 28, 2026 / 04:26 PM PDT (KRON) - Kaiser has announced plans to cut nearly 150 jobs across the state of California. The layoffs, according to a filing with the Employment Development Department, will result in 147 people losing their jobs. Among those layoffs are 34 Bay Area job cuts. The healthcare giant will be cutting 11 jobs at its headquarters in Oakland and another job at a separate facility in Oakland on Harrison Street. In Pleasanton, Kaiser plans to cut 22 jobs. The majority of the layoffs are spread across the rest of the state with employees in Pasadena, Irvine, Corona, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Folsom and San Diego all set to lose their jobs. The job cuts, which were announced late last week take effect on Nov. 20, according to state filings. All of the layoffs are described as permanent. "Kaiser Permanente continually evaluates how we organize our work and deploy resources to help ensure high-quality care remains affordable and accessible for our members and patients," a company spokesperson told KRON4. "We recently notified 147 employees in a number of business and administrative functions that their positions will be eliminated. These positions do not provide direct patient care." Kaiser said it would be supporting affected employees as they pursued other opportunities within the company and where appropriate, providing severance, career support and outplacement services.

The Wendy's on 875 W. Fifth St., just east of Keystone Avenue, officially reopened Saturday, Sept. 26, a company spokesperson confirmed with the Reno Gazette Journal. To celebrate the reopening, the location will hold a grand opening event at 8 a.m. Oct. 13. To further sweeten the pot - or the Frosty - the first 100 customers in line will receive free food for a year. Customers who get the free food promotion will receive their choice of one free premium sandwich or premium salad once a week with any food purchase. Premium sandwiches include Wendy's premium beef burgers such as the Dave's Single, Double and Triple, Baconator and Big Bacon Classic. Also included are premium sandwiches such as the Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, Spicy Asiago Ranch ChickenClub and the Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich. The West Fifth Street Wendy's has been closed for five months as it underwent an extensive remodel. The location is one of the company's older stores. The property was first built in 1977 - just eight years after Wendy's was founded - according to Washoe County Assessor records. The remodel occurred as Wendy's aims to regain the No. 2 spot for America's largest fast-food burger chain behind McDonald's. Wendy's was bumped down earlier this year to No. 3 by a rising Burger King, which implemented menu changes via a Whopper refresh and new chicken nuggets while beefing up its value offerings. In addition to welcoming an In-N-Out Burger and Reno's first Cracker Barrel, the Keystone area will also be the site of a brand new Kaiser Permanente clinic - the first newly constructed ground-up facility for the healthcare company since it entered the Nevada market via an insurance deal with Renown Health. West LA College celebrates launch of nursing program. & Partnership with Kaiser Permanente Oct 01, 2026 West Los Angeles College (WLAC) celebrated the launch of its inaugural class of Licensed Vocational Nursing students and its longstanding partnership with Kaiser Permanente during a Sept. 24 reception in the college's new nursing lab. The milestone was made possible in part by two grants from Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles, awarded in 2023 and 2025, which provided critical seed funding to develop the curriculum, equip the program and successfully navigate the rigorous approval process required by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. The new program expands the college's growing portfolio of health sciences programs, which include dental hygiene, pharmacy technician, emergency medical technician and entry-level nursing programs. It also creates an affordable pathway for students to enter a high-demand health care profession. Guests included Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Senior Vice President and Area Manager Lilit Zibari; representatives from the offices of U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, state Sen. Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan; Los Angeles Community College District Vice Chancellor Dr. Jim Lancaster; LACCD Board of Trustees member; and Culver City Unified School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alfonso Jiménez. Dr. Matthew Jordan, WLAC's interim president, welcomed guests and provided an overview of the new program. He also recognized Kaiser Permanente for its support and directed guests' attention to a display in the nursing lab commemorating the health care organization's contribution. "Kaiser Permanente has been a valued partner in preparing West LA College students for health care careers, and its support of our new LVN program is another example of what we can accomplish when education and industry work together," Jordan said. "That partnership extends beyond financial support. This fall, our Certified Nursing Assistant students will begin an acute care clinical rotation at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, giving them the opportunity to learn in a real-world health care environment. Partnerships like this help us connect education directly to opportunity for our students." Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles representatives said investing in programs such as the college's LVN program can help strengthen the pipeline of skilled health care professionals serving Southern California communities. "With the ongoing nursing shortage, programs like this are essential to building a strong and sustainable health care workforce," said Lilit Zibari, senior vice president and area manager of Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. For students in the inaugural cohort, the program represents both a professional opportunity and the possibility of a life-changing career. LVN student Leslie Rodas says she has dreamed of becoming a nurse for years. In fact, she is already working in entry-level nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a credential she earned at WLAC. Now, she is preparing to climb the ladder to higher level. The Culver City High School alumnae said, "Getting into a nursing program was not easy." When she got the acceptance letter, "I ran to my parents' room crying." She continued, "I want to sincerely thank Kaiser Permanente for helping fund this program and investing in future nurses like us... I will carry that support with me throughout my nursing journey. I hope to honor it by becoming the kind of nurse who never gives up on a patient, just as I never gave up on my dream." "Another great thing about this program is that it provides an affordable alternative to private career colleges," said Tiffany Miller, dean of academic affairs. California residents pay only $46 per unit at West Los Angeles College, and many first-time, full-time students qualify for the college's $0 Tuition Promise Program. Meeting a Regional Workforce Need Demand for licensed vocational nurses in the Los Angeles area remains strong, driven in part by an aging population, growing health care needs and the need to replace workers leaving the profession. LVNs provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. Their responsibilities can include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, changing dressings, assisting patients with daily activities, collecting samples, maintaining health records and communicating changes in a patient's condition to other members of the health care team. For some students, becoming an LVN can also be a first step toward becoming a registered nurse. After gaining experience and completing prerequisite requirements, LVNs may pursue an LVN-to-RN bridge program. Graduates who meet applicable requirements can become eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or NCLEX-RN, opening the door to expanded responsibilities and increased earning potential. According to the California Employment Development Department, employment of LVNs in Los Angeles County is projected to grow by more than 15% between 2022 and 2032. The career also offers strong earning potential, with the median wage for LVNs in the Los Angeles area equivalent to approximately $81,400 annually for full-time employment.
