Requirements
  • Professional Engineer designation, Certified Engineering Technologist designation, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5–10 years of experience managing projects up to $5 million in value, with demonstrated growth in stakeholder-engagement complexity.
  • Professional experience managing projects using established project-management best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with varied stakeholders and groups.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate alternative solutions to realize business opportunities.
  • Ability to develop relationships within a project setting.
  • Strong writing skills for developing clear and concise project-planning documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including plot plans, process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, and general arrangements.
  • Proficiency in project-management software, including Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Understanding of SECURE’s services and operations.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach a team of technical professionals to execute optimization solutions and support ongoing operations through management-of-change projects.
  • Provide technical leadership in identifying and implementing optimization opportunities.
  • Support the Optimization and management-of-change programs by building trust and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with SECURE’s specifications, standards, processes, and required project documentation.
  • Adhere to, enhance, and promote SECURE’s project-management best practices.
  • Use data-analytics platforms, including VTScada, Pi Coresite, Power BI, and Python, to justify decisions and measure success.
  • Translate the organization’s vision, mission, values, and business-unit goals into team and individual priorities.
  • Develop and maintain an organizational structure that remains lean and scalable to deliver on business needs.
  • Build technical and managerial competency and capacity by growing employee knowledge, skills, and motivation.
  • Foster a culture of customer service, results, accountability, respect, and safety.
  • Solve problems and execute solutions using a collaborative work approach.
  • Travel regularly to SECURE project sites throughout North America.
  • Conduct group compensation and performance reviews.
  • Operate to the highest standards of safety, plan and hazard-assess work activities, and mitigate identified risks.
  • Adhere to SECURE’s safety obligations and assist in developing and delivering programs and initiatives to staff.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
