About the job

Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in production control, manufacturing operations, materials, inventory control, planning support, or a related role in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Working knowledge of work orders, bills of material, routings, production schedules, material transactions, work-in-process, cycle counting, and inventory control practices is required.
  • Experience using an enterprise resource planning/materials requirements planning system, manufacturing execution system, or production tracking system to review work orders, material status, and manufacturing transactions is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, lookups, pivot tables, and analysis of production or inventory data, is required.
  • Ability to interpret production priorities, identify constraints, maintain accurate records, and communicate urgent issues clearly across office and shop-floor teams is required.
  • Ability to work on-site and regularly engage with production, warehouse, and line-side operations while following safety requirements is required.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor daily production schedules and ensure jobs are released, launched, and progressed through StartProto according to planned start dates, production priorities, and customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Value Stream Planner to sequence and prioritize work based on customer demand, material readiness, labor and equipment constraints, and current production conditions.
  • Track work orders from release through completion and communicate delays, risks, and schedule deviations before they affect downstream operations or delivery commitments.
  • Update and maintain the production Heat Map each day to show job status, constraints, priorities, and recovery actions accurately.
  • Communicate material availability, production constraints, and schedule changes to the Value Stream Planner and affected Operations and Production teams.
  • Verify material availability before work order release and promptly communicate shortages, substitutions, allocation concerns, or incomplete kits that could prevent execution.
  • Support Clear-to-Build reporting and production readiness reviews by validating material, documentation, and system status against scheduled build requirements.
  • Review work order information and notify the planner of errors or gaps involving bills of material, routings, quantities, dates, operations, and other production data in StartProto or the enterprise resource planning/materials requirements planning system.
  • Record inventory movements, material issues, work order completions, and other production transactions accurately and on time to preserve reliable system data.
  • Maintain compliance with production control procedures, inventory control standards, documentation requirements, and data accuracy expectations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and investigate discrepancies that may affect production readiness, schedule execution, or material availability.
  • Conduct line-side work-in-process audits and cycle counts with Materials Management, document variances, and support timely system and physical corrections.
  • Coordinate material movement with Materials, Warehouse, and Production teams so components, kits, and subassemblies are available at the point of use when required.
  • Monitor critical shortages and support Planning and Supply Chain in expediting, reallocating, or otherwise resolving constraints in alignment with approved priorities.
  • Identify aging, misplaced, excess, or untransacted work-in-process that may create inventory inaccuracies, floor congestion, or schedule risk, and drive issues to the appropriate owner.
  • Identify production bottlenecks involving materials, labor, equipment, quality holds, engineering information, or system data, and escalate issues affecting throughput or customer commitments.
  • Partner with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Materials, Planning, Maintenance, and Production to clarify ownership, establish recovery actions, and maintain execution discipline.
  • Participate in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities involving inventory discrepancies, material flow failures, transaction errors, missed releases, and recurring production interruptions.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts that improve schedule adherence, work-in-process visibility, inventory accuracy, point-of-use availability, and production flow.
  • Maintain and communicate performance information related to work order release, Clear-to-Build readiness, shortages, schedule attainment, inventory accuracy, and other assigned production control key performance indicators.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree or technical training in manufacturing, supply chain, operations, or a related discipline is a plus.
  • Experience supporting high-mix, high-volume, engineered-to-order, or contract manufacturing operations is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with StartProto or a comparable enterprise resource planning/materials requirements planning, manufacturing execution, shop-floor control, or production scheduling platform is preferred.
  • Experience with Clear-to-Build reporting, shortage management, production planning, capacity planning, schedule attainment, or material readiness reviews is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel capability and exposure to SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools used for key performance indicator reporting and data analysis are preferred.
  • Experience participating in Root Cause and Corrective Action, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, standard work, or other continuous improvement initiatives is preferred.
  • Familiarity with structural fabrication, machining, welding, electrical integration, mechanical assembly, or complex systems integration is preferred.

About the company

GTI Fabrication builds custom metal enclosures and modular systems for businesses developing energy storage, data center, defense and industrial equipment. Its structures house customers' batteries, electrical controls and mechanical equipment, with designs tailored to each product's operating requirements. Customers contract with GTI to turn their designs into finished hardware, combining engineering, metal fabrication and coatings with mechanical and electrical assembly. The company fits equipment into these structures and tests the completed systems before they leave its manufacturing facilities. Founded in 2015, GTI is headquartered in Buffalo, New York.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Customer relationships extend beyond delivery: GTI sells equipment maintenance, repairs and retrofits after manufacturing.
  • Employees get development pathways: GTI advertises training programs and routes into leadership roles on its careers page.
  • Launch work includes trial runs: GTI uses pilot production to identify manufacturing problems before full-scale output.

What critics are saying

  • International sourcing adds coordination: GTI manages customs and regional regulations across a manufacturing network spanning Asia, Europe and Mexico.
  • Goodyear inspection work is physical: GTI's second-shift quality technician posting requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Engineering teams answer to client specifications: GTI involves customers at every stage through final design approval.

What makes GTI Fabrication unique

  • Domestic procurement is built in: GTI manufactures U.S.-made shipping containers compliant with the Trade Agreements Act.
  • Production sites have distinct jobs: GTI's Phoenix facility integrates systems without fabrication, while Goodyear builds steel battery enclosures.
  • Quality processes carry certification: GTI identifies its organization as certified to the ISO 9001 quality management standard.
