Globe Life shares fall 8% after $7M in excess Medicare claims; investors face probe

Law firm Levi & Korsinsky, under its SueWallSt banner, has announced an investigation into Globe Life Inc. (NYSE: GL) over possible securities law violations. Globe Life's third-quarter results, reported on October 22, 2026, included about $7 million in excess prior-period Medicare Supplement claims. The company said they were paid because of a CMS processing delay. Its shares fell more than 8% on October 23, 2026. The claims hit United American, Globe Life's Medicare Supplement division, which reported a health underwriting margin of negative $6 million on $219 million in health premiums. Globe Life falls 8% as Piper Sandler downgrades it and cuts price target to $165

Globe Life shares fell 8% after Piper Sandler downgraded the life insurer to Neutral from Overweight and cut its price target to $165 from $200. Analyst Paul Newsome said the company is no longer a "predictable safe haven" following its third-quarter report. Piper cited larger medical claims, irregular Medicare supplement claims, and weaker 2027 guidance for the core business. It also warned that rivals are being choosy about whom they cover and pushing for higher rates, which could leave Globe Life with riskier customers. Third-quarter net operating income fell 4% to $378.8 million. Buybacks of $185 million still lifted earnings per share by 1%. TD Cowen trimmed its target to $215 from $225 and kept its Buy rating.
