Requirements
  • Must be a Licensed Customs Broker.
  • Have proven experience in brokerage operations and managing U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other government agency electronic submissions.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of experience in freight forwarding or logistics.
  • Identify and implement Robotic Process Automation opportunities to streamline repetitive entry tasks and electronic submissions.
  • Use data-driven insights and tools such as Power BI to monitor compliance key performance indicators and operational performance.
  • Have a deep understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification, import laws, and other government agency requirements, including Consumer Product Safety Commission, Food and Drug Administration, and Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
  • Provide strong customer service and confer effectively with agency officials.
  • Manage complex documentation, including certificates of origin and cargo-control papers.
  • Work on-site from the New York office.
  • Stay current with changing industry regulations and manage multiple priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Request or compile import documentation, including customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
  • Monitor changes in import laws and regulations through current literature and conferences.
  • Ensure applicable products meet Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements.
  • Classify goods according to the tariff coding system and calculate duty and tariff payments.
  • Quote duty and tax rates based on federal tariffs and excise taxes.
  • Post bonds for imported products or assist clients in obtaining them.
  • Apply for tariff concessions, duty drawbacks, and other refunds.
  • Prepare papers for shippers to appeal duty charges.
  • Clear goods through customs and coordinate local delivery to final destinations.
  • Coordinate freight release, including Pier Pass TMF and Clean Trucks Program CTF fees.
  • Monitor and trace goods and confirm Customs and other government agency release status.
  • Coordinate required examinations and maintain relationships with brokers in other ports to expedite cargo clearance.
  • Advise customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, and quotas.
  • Provide advice and quotes on transportation options.
  • Update shipment status for clients and notify consignees when documentation is missing for a Customs and Border Protection entry.
  • Invoice clients for services and perform other duties as directed by management.
