Heartland Veterinary Partners

View

Heartland Veterinary Partners is a veterinary support organization that acquires veterinary practices and provides back-office services such as payroll, human resources, marketing, recruiting, and inventory management. Its product is the operational support package that runs non-clinical functions for partner clinics, enabling clinicians to focus on patient care. The company differentiates itself by allowing acquired practices to keep their original branding, name, and clinical autonomy, preserving the doctors’ culture while improving work-life balance and financial security. It grows through acquisitions and by leveraging economies of scale to boost efficiency for its partner hospitals. The goal is to build a larger network of companion-animal veterinary hospitals that delivers supportive services to clinicians and their teams, expanding across markets in the Midwest and South while maintaining clinical autonomy and culture.

What believers are saying

  • JLL sold an 18-property Heartland-leased portfolio in January 2026, validating asset value.
  • Heartland added Family Vet Group in 2022, expanding Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and Indiana.
  • Gryphon's continued backing supports acquisition firepower and recruitment against fragmented independent practices.

What critics are saying

  • Heartland carries $149.9 million debt and $11.2 million letters of credit, pressuring 2027 refinancing.
  • Private-equity rollups face veterinarian pushback; Heartland's autonomy promise strains under centralized cost controls.
  • A failed 2027 refinance or stalled acquisitions would choke growth and threaten sponsor returns.

What makes Heartland Veterinary Partners unique

  • Connor Lawrie, former COO, became CEO in April 2026, signaling operational continuity.
  • Heartland has nearly 350 practices across 32 states, giving regional scale and purchasing power.
  • Its white-label model preserves local clinic brands, helping retention of veterinarians and clients.
