Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree, or relevant experience meeting the required years of experience specified in the job description.
  • Meets eligibility to obtain National Student Loan Database System access and must not be in default on a student loan.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid policies, criteria, and procedures.
  • Strong active listening, communication, confidentiality, critical thinking, customer-focused decision-making, policy knowledge, and time management skills.
  • All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.
  • A satisfactory pre-employment background check is required as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Counsel and advise prospective and enrolled students on federal and state financial aid programs, including Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, TEACH Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Direct Loan Programs through phone, in-person, or written contacts.
  • Provide accurate information about financial aid policies, criteria, and procedures and respond to prospective students' concerns and needs.
  • Perform detailed and personalized outreach to prospective and continuing students through phone calls, email, and other communications.
  • Assist students in resolving problems associated with federal and state program applications, electronic loan transmission, and corrections.
  • Evaluate and process special-circumstance requests and petitions for independent status to determine eligibility for federal programs.
  • Resolve over-award situations by reducing one or more aid programs when students receive additional resources or conflicting financial information, informing students, contacting appropriate agencies, and returning proceeds.
  • Serve as a rotating member of the satisfactory academic progress appeals committee.
  • Review daily correspondence and award letters to ensure accuracy and perform quality assurance.
  • Support student retention through direct outreach and by helping students understand available resources and policies.
  • Participate in assigned committees and outreach projects.
  • Represent Louisiana State University and the Office of Enrollment Management at professional functions, recruiting events, and orientation events.
  • Refer students who appear to need emotional, behavioral, or mental-health-related services to the appropriate Student Health Center service, and contact the Care Team, Dean of Students, or appropriate law-enforcement agency when a student appears to pose a danger to themselves or others.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of best practices in financial aid.
  • Experience working in financial aid or an equivalent student service setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision-making, including effective analytical skills and proven results in achieving objectives and goals.
