  • Proficiency in providing mobility assistance and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of proper techniques for working with people with disabilities.
  • Completion of all required Department of Energy training for contractors.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including eating, drinking, dressing, toileting, transferring, and walking or mobility, to employees with targeted disabilities.
  • Assist with transferring individuals in and out of restroom stalls, vehicles, mobility devices, and other locations as required.
  • Adjust, manipulate, or operate employees' workstations and government equipment or technology.
  • Provide sighted guidance to blind and low-vision employees, including navigating facilities and guiding them through tasks.
  • Perform tasks that ensure physical access to cafeterias, break rooms, training sessions, social events, and other spaces available to employees.
  • Read aloud technical and non-technical documents while maintaining appropriate pacing, pronunciation, enunciation, and confidentiality.
  • Lift, carry, and manipulate objects up to 75 pounds and assist with clothing, eating, and related tasks when necessary.
  • Collaborate with a core group of personal assistants to ensure continuity and consistency of services.
  • Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality when interacting with employees and colleagues.
  • Complete required Department of Energy contractor training and stay current with professional techniques.
  • Report services, cancellations, and other performance metrics monthly and quarterly.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to organize files and assist with light filing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology applications such as ZoomText, JAWS, Kurzweil, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities in an academic, government, medical, or similar professional environment.
  • Experience providing wheelchair assistance and lifting or carrying various weights.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and experience working with blind or low-vision individuals.
  • Adherence to professional appearance standards appropriate for the work environment.
