Ignition 8.3.8: global control of historian seed values, installer restore option, Form Component improvements & more. by Jennifer Faylor, Inductive Automation on July 14, 2026 The Ignition release train starts summer off with a sizzle, giving you several hot new tools to build better automation solutions. Ignition 8.3.8 delivers global control of seed values in the historian, a new installer restore option, two flexibility-boosting improvements for the Form Component, new scripting APIs, and more. Global control of historian seed values. In Ignition 8.3.8, new historian functionality gives you an even greater level of control - there's now a configurable partition limit for querying seed values for SQL database historians. Before, you had to decide whether you wanted to turn on interpolation and inject seed values for every individual query. But now, you can limit the amount of seed values being used on a global level. With this new setting, you can choose to globally toggle querying of all, a specific number, or no partitions for seed values a given partition may have. Once you enable or disable this functionality, or once you limit how many partitions you want to allow for seed values, it will affect all queries being run for that historian. Installer restore option. Thanks to a user's request on the Ignition forum, you can now restore a Gateway backup during new Ignition installations. This new feature is a great way to streamline your workflow, enabling you to duplicate a Gateway configuration without a secondary restart. And of course, if you have a bunch of new installations to do on multiple machines, the time you'll end up saving becomes significant. Form Component improvements. There are two exciting new updates that boost flexibility in the Form Component: a new search component for its drop-down widget, and a file upload widget. These two new features mirror capabilities that already exist in Perspective, giving you the ability to perform these functions within the Form Component itself. As a result, it gives the Form Component more configurable functionality without having to depend on adjacent components. The new search component can be enabled/disabled and configured with different match and "no results found" behaviors. And for online forms, the new file upload widget gives you another UI design option for file submissions, with the ability to upload files embedded in the submission of a single form. New scripting APIs. 8.3.8 delivers a couple of handy scripting improvements. Inductive Automation, LLC has added a system.config scripting API to the Gateway scope. This exciting new feature lets you create, read, update, and delete Gateway configuration resources programmatically. Additionally, Inductive Automation, LLC has added and enhanced the system.secrets scripting API to work with the system.config scripting functions. The ability to manipulate profile resources programmatically adds a major bump of flexibility to Gateway configurations by allowing scripting alternatives to Gateway profile changes. Honorable mentions. Hang on! There are a few more new features in Ignition 8.3.8 that are worthy of a shout-out. Config persistence. In 8.3.8, the ConfigurationManager will now always log the active deployment mode (or lack thereof) during the startup phase of the Gateway. Overall, this new functionality will be especially helpful for troubleshooting. Event streams. In 8.3.8's Project Browser, an event stream now has a badge which reflects its status. The following states will be graphically expressed via badge: * Running * Unsaved Changes * Disabled * Faulted * Stopped This new feature will provide a convenience that's similar to Transaction Groups - helping you monitor large numbers of running event streams with just a quick glance. Sequential function charts. You can now use standard expression functionality (including the ability to pass in parameterized UDTs) in the SFC parallel block's cancel condition. Additionally, there are some handy new editor helpers to easily insert a tag, select from a list of operators, or select from a list of functions. Thanks to this new feature, you can now configure SFC cancel conditions to monitor the state of tag values, getting more flexibility with tag configurations. More new features are on their way! Find out more about the updates in 8.3.8 in the release notes and the Ignition user manual. And head over to the ideas portal to share your ideas (big or small) for new features that would make building in Ignition better. The 8.3.9 release train will be arriving before you know it, due to pull into the station in late August.
ESK now part of the Inductive Automation Integrator Program! 13 April 2026 ESK Control Ltd are pleased to share ESK Control Ltd is now part of the Inductive Automation Integrator Program at Credential level. The Credential is a solid step forward as ESK Control Ltd build out its capability with the Ignition platform. Ignition is more than a SCADA tool. It covers real-time data acquisition, historian connectivity, reporting, and visualisation across industrial operations. It reflects where ESK Control Ltd see modern OT heading: flexible, web-based architectures replacing legacy, heavyweight systems, with cybersecurity treated as a design principle, not an afterthought. That means proper network segmentation, controlled access, and reducing unnecessary exposure of control systems. These are areas too often overlooked in older setups. ESK Control Ltd is continuing to develop with Ignition, backed by Inductive Automation, while bringing experience from real-world industrial environments including oil & gas, utilities, food & beverage, manufacturing, water & wastewater, and transportation, where reliability and security both matter. If you're planning a new system, or looking to extend, modernise, or secure an existing one, happy to have a straight conversation. https://lnkd.in/ecTZy6bC hashtag#InductiveAutomation hashtag#OTCybersecurity hashtag#IndustrialAutomation
Beyond live data: accessing the full power of Ignition's tag database with i3X. by Travis Cox, Inductive Automation on March 17, 2026 There are many ways that Inductive Automation is taking an active role in shaping the future of industrial data interoperability. You probably know that Inductive Automation, LLC is champions of OT-IT convergence, Unified Namespace, and open standards like MQTT and OPC UA. There's another way Inductive Automation, LLC is pushing interoperability forward, which you may not have heard as much about: its membership in CESMII (Collaborative Ecosystems for Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute). Inductive Automation and CESMII. CESMII promotes interoperability as part of its mission to democratize and accelerate the adoption of smart manufacturing - a mission that Inductive Automation, LLC at IA are very much aligned with. In this blog, I'll tell you about an exciting new project that IA and other leading companies have been working on with CESMII that will significantly advance both smart manufacturing and interoperability. Before diving into the new project, though, let's quickly take in a bigger picture of what CESMII and its members are trying to accomplish, specifically CESMII's three Smart Manufacturing Architecture Imperatives for standardized manufacturing data interoperability. The first imperative calls for manufacturers to define and maintain their operational data models using an open standard. Ignition enables this by allowing standard models to be imported as User-Defined Types (UDTs). The second imperative is to instantiate those models with real data, build relationships between objects, and persist both history and metadata. This is a natural fit for Ignition, where the tag database offers a wealth of information, encompassing live values, context, alarm history, tag history, relationships, and models. The imperative for an open standard API. CESMII's third imperative is to establish a standard, common API that a wide array of platforms can use to commoditize access to manufacturing data. Using a standard API will deliver significant benefits: * It will help manufacturers fight back against the proliferation of data silos and the growing number of incompatible APIs. * It will enable products from different vendors to discover and understand data across the supply chain without custom integrations or remapping. * It will empower application developers to build once and deploy across multiple back-end systems. That open standard is i3X (Industrial Interoperability API), which is a REST API that can discover namespaces, explore object types, query real-time and historical data, navigate relationships, and subscribe to events, forming a foundation for analytics and AI applications. The i3X standard was developed by the i3X working group, which I'm a member of, on behalf of IA. The working group also includes colleagues from AWS, GE Appliances, Georgia-Pacific, HighByte, Microsoft, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and ThinkIQ. After working together on this project for over a year, it's exciting that Inductive Automation, LLC has begun to share what Inductive Automation, LLC has built with the public. I3X at the ProveIt! Conference. At the ProveIt! 2026 Conference in February, I and several other members of the i3X working group participated in a CESMII keynote session titled "Building Better Namespaces with CESMII," where Inductive Automation, LLC demonstrated an alpha prototype of i3X. Each presenter seamlessly connected their solution through i3x, and each presenter added more layers to the same data set. In my part of the session, I demonstrated connecting to controllers to build UDTs within Ignition and bringing in external smart manufacturing profiles. I showed how to connect to an Ignition endpoint and discover all namespaces, including Ignition UDTs and machine identification types. Then I highlighted the ability to see live data, history, and even alarms within a single pane of glass using the i3X Explorer. Additionally, I showed a converter tool that downloads XML Nodesets to create and map new UDT definitions to PLCs. (You can watch the recorded session here.) Inductive Automation, LLC got very positive feedback from the attendees at ProveIt!, because it was the first time that they got to see the value of being able to access the full extent of the data. Native i3x support coming, Endpoints resource available now. As I said, Ignition's tag database provides a wealth of information, and i3X will give Ignition a way to expose the full power of its tag database to third-party applications. Exposing Ignition's existing tag database information with i3X was fairly simple because Ignition's design aligns perfectly with how i3X works. Inductive Automation is working to build native i3X support into Ignition, so expect to see that in a future release. For now, you can download the CESMII i3X API Endpoints on the Ignition Exchange, which you can use along with the i3X Explorer tool to validate your data implementation, without having to write up your own client for testing. Ignition's support for standards like SQL, MQTT, and now i3X is a major reason that it's recognized as the most open and flexible industrial application platform in the world. Inductive Automation, LLC will always be committed to leveraging the power of open standards, so that you can always feel confident that different systems in your operations will work together smoothly.
